Sounds like you used the horticulture grade vermiculite, I beleive it has a tendency to absorb more water than the course stuff, but, like taz has stated.. you will most likely be fine with it. Go to the 'www.fanaticus.com', PF's webpage and look at the 'pf formula update' to get the exact water/verm ratio for the horticulture verm.

Sounds like...shake! You can try sifting it through a fine screen, you get a lot of powder like that when near the end of the bag. It'll prolly be ok.

So is the horticulture vermiculite bad? i just used it with 1/2 cup of verm, 1/4 cub of BRF, and 45 cc's of water. The mixture would still stick together though, so I though it looked like a good mix. What kind of vermiculite are you suposed to be using? Thanks all.

horticultural vermiculite is fine, and in some cases, it's actually better. I've used it extensively. I've noticed that when using horticultural vermiculite, you need to add a tad bit more water to the recipe to get the right consistency, though. Which in essence is a good thing. Water = good.
