wet slick caps
    #2813909 - 06/21/04 02:09 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

A friend of mine recently harvested his Transkei's and is a tiny bit concerned about what he observed to be a bit odd.

He grew on both pasteurized horse poo and just simple crumbled pf casings.

The pf casings produced fruits which looked like the usuall Transkeis. White ring around the cap and medium sized fruits.

The poo casings ,however, produced suprisingly small shrooms(around 3 to 4 in) that didnt have the white ring around the cap and were a bit darker brown and the caps seemed to be a little wetter than what he is used to seeing. They werent covered with slime or anything, just sorta slick. They smelled normal and everything he just wanted to see if this could possibly be something dangerous to consume.

Here is a pic of the shrooms in question

Thanks for your advice!

I think they're golden. When fruits are a little more moist than usual, it's a good idea to get them on a fan ASAP. After drying, they'll all look the same.
It's good to be cautious; usually if there's a problem [bacterial] the caps have splotches of dark, and the caretaker is more than a teeny bit concerned. Nice job to that person!

Thanks so much for the reply Suntzu!
I too believe that it is important to be cautious. It could only take one hasty moment of poor judgement to turn a fun, worthwhile hobby into a disaster. Nobody want to make their friends or themselves sick because they lacked proper knowledge and concern for what they are doing.

Anyway, once again, thank you for your knowledgable insight. It is good of people like yourself to help people to learn when they are willing. The Shroomery Kicks Ass!!

ya, just looks like your humidity was a bit high, or you had just misted them.

They look fine. Nice harvest too.
