Just thought you guys would like to know how much mushrooms go for around here...

If the mods want to move this, that's cool, I just put it here because I consider this place home.

I'm guessing 14.99 on the porcini sign... never had one meself, but I'm told they taste damn fine... apparently there were some being sold at the Vic-markets, Melbourne Australia last week for about 16.00 Australian $/ Kg. Prized in Italian cooking... I might wander down there next week!

Yeah, I'd bet on US$14.99. I was more yanking chain a bit. When you can get them fresh here in Denver they usually run somewhere around that price. Of course, that's one of the main reasons I learned to find and identify mushrooms.

If fresh porcini (also cepe, steinpilz, and lost of other names) aren't available, check for dried. They dry really well, and the price for dried is usually a lot more reasonable.

If buying fresh, check for worms. I've seen fresh wild mushrooms in a store that were literally crawling with maggots.

Happy mushrooming!
