What Size Prefilter/Furnace Filter for Series 1 Flowhood?

Hi
I just placed an order for a Series 1 flow hood from Fungi Perfecti. I found a thread where some of you talked about using a furnace filter as a prefilter but I am not sure which size I should buy.
Is there anyone who can tell me what size filter I should buy to use as a prefilter?
Also, is there anything else I will need or should know when adding a prefilter to the series 1 flow hood?

I just use the cheap dust filter at lowes but mine is custom built. As long as the resistance of the pre filter you buy does not have to much resistance that ruins your static pressure then you should be good.

This is what I use. I just pulled it out of the casing and metal and cut it to fit the size I needed. If this is wrong tell me but I get 0 contams on my test plates every time.

Use the highest quality furnace filter you can get because it will save the expensive HEPA filter. I use the super allergen, 1 X 20, by cutting the packaging so I'm using only half of it at a time.
My flowhood is nearly 12 years old, runs several hours per day and is on the original filter. I've probably changed the prefilter 100 times. RR

RR, I notice in your pic the filter is a 10 x 20 x 1. I would order the same one from Amazon but the sellers won't ship to Australia and I can't find the same ones locally since furnaces aren't common here.
I can find the same ones as yours on Ebay but the measurements are 20 x 20 x 1. Would this size be fine or would the extra size be problematic when placing it over the blower?
There are the "filtrete micro allergen" versions which I would be able to get in the same size or slightly bigger but when looking at the pics online there appears to be a thicker mesh built into the product which has the pattern of a chain link fence and I worry that it could obstruct the airflow too much.

Sure. You'll just have to cut it to fit and duct tape the heck out of it. It will be ugly but work.
Alternatively, you can build a box over the top of your flowhood, and fix the top so there's a 20 X 20 opening where you can lay the whole filter. This will enclose your motor/blower so it's only exposed to filtered air. RR

Hi The furnace filter size depends on how big you want to have your working space. The smallest filter size you can reasonably use (for home scale cultivation) is 1ft x 1ft, better though 1ft x 2ft or 2ft x 2ft.
Thanks
