my comp wont shut down

i have xp.. and you know where it says "windows is shutting down"? well it freezes up right there.. never getting to the "it is now safe to turn off your computer" screen...any ideas why?

Locus, when shutting down press Alt+Ctrl+Del (win task man.)
click on processes tab, try closing programs one at a time
( that correspond to your "user name" in next column, not the system ones though.)

Check for spyware, malware, viruses if you haven't already
