I found out why beans are bad spawns

Unless your beans are soaked and PC-ed to a mush, There is no hope in hell for the myc to penetrate into the beans to get into that sweet juicy nitrogen dense interior.

This is a bean spawn, soaked and PC-ed with 70% water to bean, and as you can see, the myc can't penetrate into the core; they are only able to grow on the bean surface...

Just a thought but some beans contain quite harmful compounds to people which need adequate processing to be safe, perhaps the same is true of beans to mushrooms?
I know it's not fair to say this but it's amazing how some fungi eat rocks but the simple bean is impenetrable to shrooms.

there are different toxins in different beans and grains obv but mycelium does have the capacity to eat phytates in general. and im sure everyone knows about mycelium being able to both absorb and breakdown different toxins. so sometimes it does bioaccumulate, but sometimes it denatures and chelates. raw kidney beans have something nasty in them for humans

Tempeh springs to mind. Rhizopus mold has no problem eating legumes.
