Just how rain tolerant is pachanoi?
    #28118949 - 12/31/22 03:15 PM (1 year, 28 days ago)

They seem to have turned a bluish color and swelled up a bit in the rain.
Are they able to handle heavy rain for a few weeks?
My area is getting an unusual amount of rain currently, Im probably overthinking it but im curious.

I love them so much and would be upset if they got sick.
This species defies logic in so many ways, it really is like they are from a different planet.

Just depends how free draining your soil mix is.
I am in zone 9 and plants are outdoors all year.
I maintain at least 50% perlite to provide good drainage, we average 60+ inches rain per year.

Agreed. They can put up with monsoon if the soil is well drained enough.

Mine are currently in a very badly draining clay, and are copping the start of the monsoon in the tropics. I do keep them under cover out of the rain when it’s looking like they might be getting too waterlogged though, but they can take a heck of a lot of water.
My pachanoi even seem to be enjoying the hot, humid, wet weather a lot more than the last place I lived, which was a lot drier with bigger temperature changes. I’ve only lived in the tropics for three months and it’s already grown a foot!

If they do get too much water then they’ll start to rot and get brown/black spots on the skin which get bigger the longer they’re exposed to too much water. They’ll also start weeping a dark brown sticky sap through the skin (which I’ve bioassayed and contains mescaline, it’s pretty potent).

Swelling sounds alright, they’re probably just drinking it up and loving it. Blue is okay too, it’s probably just the colour of new growth.

Pachanoi is a very rain tolerant plant. It can tolerate a wide range of rainfall and humidity levels, making it ideal for outdoor gardens in areas with frequent rainfall. In addition, Pachanoi is highly resistant to fungal and bacterial diseases, which helps it to tolerate wet conditions. Its thick and waxy leaves provide a natural barrier to moisture, making the plant less vulnerable to water damage.

Time of year is a factor too much water in the winter and they will rot.
