oh yeah, that's a good idea. those are still natural gas and they are quite small, 30k-80k btus.

but they are expensive at $3,000. a mr heater big maxx would be a nice cheap alternative at only $429: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LWW7V7K/

I just throw a dehumifier in a closet with a box fan if i have too many to fit in the cabelas. But realistically you’re gonna have to be producing more than 2 lbs (dry) a day to need anything bigger than the 160 l cabelas. At that point you can probably afford to buy another cabelas. Or something bigger..

A dehum that’d rocka closet costs about 200$, add a space heater because heat makes the dehum work better, and a box fan and you can dry 20-30 lbs in 36 hrs or so, and if thats not quick enough after a few hours in rhe closet you can do 5+ lbs in a cabelas and finish it overnight
they make huge commercial dehum units if you’re going any bigger than that but just spreading stuff out further/increasing airflow goes a long way.

We used to do this in carports and cabins to dry 1000 lbs of weed every year on the farm, it takes a while longer but is way more cost efficient

Another thought, if you wanted it to get hotter it wouldnt take much to hard wire your space heater and put itnon a thermostat, pop it open and bypass the control panel run the piwer straight to the heat element. Aure it would void the warrantee but almost any thermostat you use would be better than the one it comes with..

word.  I didn't mean specifically a hotdawg.  Those are what i use in commerical greenhouses. bit overkill.

but thats what a shop heater is. like I said, people throw them out on the curb, or put them on craigslist all the time because they get tax rebates for the higher efficiency ones.

Just craigslist shop heater. you never know what youlll find.
its basically just a furnace that hangs from struts.

coincidentally, i just saw a mr heater unit sitting on the curb.  theres not a lot to these units.  the valve can go bad but its totally replaceable.  thermo coupler.. fittings.

the only thing that cant be replaced is the actual heat exchange but they dont really go bad.

and it looks like the fan can be swapped out for something more or less powerful. it probably has fewer computerized safety features that may be annoying if you try to modify it (compared to a house furnace).

mmmm... i wouldnt say that but its all easy to bypass if you have the minerals.

install a honeywell standing pilot valve and its all gone.

i probably wouldnt change the fun... over cooling and you loose efficiency.  undercooling and you risk burning up the echanger and burning your house down.

I think its a cool idea though.

greenhouse convection tubing would be something to look into .  it comes with precut holes but u can get it uncut.

this shit.  search "gree house convection tubing".

its a plastic tube... typically 18" but i think theres other sizes.  i usually got mine punched at 5 ans 7 oclock but i know it comes unpunched bc i got one by accident one time.

seems like it wouls have all kinds of mycology applications for the frugal growers..

i don't see what use that would have in a dehydrator but that looks like some great ducting that can have high pressure mister nozzles inside for gourmet growers. i think i've seen that in the fruiting room of earth angel mushrooms video on youtube.

Hi everyone and Merry Christmas,

I have an agar question.
The plates seem to be stalling. Wanted to ask am I doing something wrong.
They are in a cake box and at constant 21 C temp and in the dark.
I incubated at 30 C for 36 hours and a couple of days after that it started but then stopped seemingly...

What was your pressure cooking process?

Bought the plates online, sterile and sealed from a very reputable vendor that has a big lab and produces many kinds of mushrooms industrially.

I think smelly means your process for PCing the agar mix. Or were they pre-poured?

And what's your process for inoculating? You have an SAB? Do you spray ISO alcohol in the SAB then let it sit a few min, wear gloves, spray the gloves with ISO, flame-sterilize your scalpel or loop (OUTSIDE THE SAB and after the ISO dries on your gloves) ?

If your plates were pre-poured, are there any you didn't open? Do they still look OK?

They were pre-poured and sealed with parafilm and  sterile sealed in a plastic bag.
There are no plates left, I bought 5 and inoculated 5.

Inoculation I did without a SAB, in a clean room without windows, sprayed the area down with Lysol, scrubbed arms, desinfected them with alcohol, wore gloves and desinfected them too, flame-sterilized the scalpel.

Are you using a heat mat?

Yes, for 36 h they were in a cake box and the box on a ceramic plate. The idea was to not to have them directly on the mat so that the temp is around 30 C to get the spores out of dormancy.

That's what brought the condensation out, but i'm not sure if this had anything to do with them stalling. I unplugged the mat after 36h and since then it was room temp 20-21 C.

i was thinking you could make a HVAC plenum out of sheet metal that plugs into the rectangular shaped heat outlet of Mr Heater. that's the same way you'd connect a duct to a house furnace. you'd have to cut off those louvers from mr heater though so a plenum could be connected.

there's lots of tutorials on youtube about how to make custom sized plenums out of sheet metal:

that plenum could go into the back of a dehydrator. you could also add another plenum on the exhaust side of the dehydrator that goes to the outside world for venting but the fan in mr heater might not have enough power for all that static pressure.

word.  we thinkin the same thing but im
sayin skip the sheet metal and use the convection tubing.  it solves ducting issues in the greenhouse for two main reasons:

1. cost
2. transluscent

you *could* make a little shrowd (with sheet metal) to mount the tubing to rather than buying it.  just needs to be 18".  i usually use greenhouse tape to mount it but i think good duct tape or exhaust tape would be good too.

im a cheap bastard.  your design would be more handsome i reckon.

but then you'd have uneven drying because you'd have a hot zone in the middle of your dehydrator that gets all the heat and the rest would have limited heat/air flow. the greenhouse tube is only about 1.5 ft in diameter but the bun rack is about 5 ft tall and 2.5 ft wide.

a plenum would spread out the airflow so the inlet is larger.
