Fungus gnats and Phalaris
    #28100835 - 12/16/22 05:10 PM (1 year, 1 month ago)

Seems I have a slight fungus gnat infestation in my arundinacaea, nothing crazy but it is in a small closet grow space above the wife’s clothes sooo I’d like to handle it asap haha.

I’ve researched a bit and read that a solution of peroxide and water will kill larva on contact.

I plan on repotting with a better drainage and a thin casing layer of sand/pebbles to keep the top layer regulated.

Anyone know if peroxide is phalaris safe?

Crumble up Mosquito Dunks and place them on top of the soil and water thoroughly.  It'll interrupt the larva growth cycle and you'll be adult gnat free in a couple of weeks.  I have never had luck with hydrogen peroxide.

I see that mosquito dunks use a bacteria to get the job done..cool, I’m down with that..
But, what else is used to make them I’m curious?
Are they safe for consumption?
I don’t know how I feel about making a tea with or smoking plant material that has had unknown additives.

Mosquito dunks are Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) and is an organic option for pests.
You can buy Bt sprays if you want to avoid whatever else is in the dunks but just check the ingredients.
Also the yellow sticky traps are a easy, cheap, and non-toxic option that works well indoors.

Hm okay, a spray might be more of an option.
I might just repot to  new soil and clean some of the dead material away (it was dormant and there was some dead grass when it was gifted) followed by a  1:4 peroxide:water flush.

I may just trim all the grass and start to bring it outside to initiate dormancy again.
Planning on it being an outdoor grow anyway, this was just a test run honestly….plus I could use the space.

u dont want to use phalaris for a dmt extract, yes just put it outside it grows in teh boreal forret so can handle cold. also fungus nats go away if dont water aswell.

best to help kill all stages in applied in THIS order.
1. sticky traps
2. peroxide water
3 than next watering add the BT/dunks.

Why do you recommend not using phalaris for dmt?
(I am aware of the potential unwanted alkaloids but also there are methods to analyze the profile and extract safely)

I ended up doing a flush with 1:2 ratio of 3% peroxide and moved it into my unheated hallway (with my dormant trichs) that’s sitting around 45-50 degrees (low thirties outside).

Haven’t seen any sign of the gnats.

Definitely something to consider. It’s a very strong possibility that I’ll never go the chemical extraction route. The more natural the better for me.
( though for dmt I may make an exception )

I’m absolutely ok with mild experiences, and there seems to be some solid reports on erowid.

I decided to harvest the plant material as it was starting to etiolate. It’s going to be an outdoor grow so it’s all good.
I have 8 grams wet and am in the process of drying. Going to mix with some other herbs and rolling in a “sicar”  with sacred lotus petals.. thinking about some Passiflora foliage.
Gonna smoke it and see how it goes.
