Yesterday's haul
    #2810610 - 06/20/04 08:33 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

I'm drying most of them, but for the ones like these with the long stems \/

Are the stems worth drying as well? Are they scrumptuous?

I found this as well, a curiosity:

And lastly a question: if I arrange the morels thusly

and get some prints on those index cards, would they have a snowballs chance of growing if I put them under some leaves in a nearby apple orchard?  I want more.

That's what I was wondering...it has the look and feel of an oyster mushroom, very fibrous too, but no gills. I found it right next to the morels at I'm guessing 4500 feet in last years forest fires, in Eastern Washington next to the Canadian border. But it was growing out of the ground like a morel, not out of wood.

it is not a boletus, it is a polypore. if it is pliant and fleshy, that should make it rather destinctive. if you can get a print from it you may have some luck in geting it ID'd. terestrial fruiting would make it rather distinctive for a polypore aswells, but it may well have been fruiting from burried wood.

morel cultivation is verry touch-and-go. there are methods in the literature (and online) wich have worked but there is no publicaly available method showing much promise.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
