Hey, im fairlly new to shrooms and I need an I.D. on these. I picked these with a few of my boys in Bradenton, FL thursday morning. We pointed them out as psilocybe cubensis, but I want another opinion to be on the safe side. Thanks. sorry for quality :/

ahh yes, that is definately a mess. Get some isolated pics of the caps, the bottom of the caps, and the stems. This will help, and please provide more info.

heres some more pics of the undercaps to help:
I took a spore print and it came out blackish, purplish, blueish and I think thats a good sign. The gills are really dark, almost black. In the pics they look kinda smushed b/c they were in a plastic bag and we kept taking them out. The stems are hollowThere is some bruising on the stem as well and from the looks of it, blueish as well. The stems are hollow, and pale white. And from the first pics u can see the goldish to whitish cap. When we first picked them they had like a flat top, and I believe the center of the cap was raised up. Oh and the funk that comes from these bad boys are STRONG! They smell like really strong mushrooms. . .not too bad but also not too enjoyable.

Nice. Those are some mangled mushrooms.
Nobody here can truly identify those mushrooms because they are mangled and mooshed to sh*t.
You do in fact have some Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms in there, but there is a possibility that you have a mixed collection of other species also, because as i mentioned above; your collection is mangled and mooshed to sh*t.
With that said, i would recommend you do the smart thing and just trash the whole collection and go to find more. -The next time you collect do not use plastic bags, plastic doesn't allow the mushrooms to breath and then once you get them home they are mooshy and mangled and garbage.
Also, some of your mushrooms don't even look safe to eat, you need to find cubes that are healthy and not nasty looking.
Also, when you take a picture of your collection, line the mushrooms up so that it is not just a big pile of mook.
Neat score none-the-less. I saw some cubensis in a bradenton field the other day, driving by.
If you want to learn more about hunting Cubensis read the mushroom hunting guide at www.shroomwizard.com.
Keep shroomin, GG

And here is a good example of healthy Psilocybe cubensis shrooms, good for consumption. Found by mjshroomer the other day, somewhere in asia.

argh, but do u think they are still edible? i kno the only mushrooms that were with the cubes were paenelous subs, or however u spell it.
also, would washing them in water be the best way to clean them?

As Greatone said, you should throw these out, they are very unclean / deteriorated and from these pictures it's impossible to tell if they are solely cubensis. Yes washing with water is fine. Good luck on the next hunt.

Psilocybin is water soluble. So washing them with water is likely to take away at least some of the good stuff. Its best just to cut them with scissors at the base and keep them clean from the start.

Your mushrooms are not salvageable. If you eat them you're likely to get some nasty food poisoning or worse.

Eh, not really edible. They could possibly give you a stomach ache; its the equivalent of eating a rotten apple. The mushrooms in your pictures are past their day. Also, (since you are relatively inexperienced with identifying Cubes so-far) to be perfectly honest there is a good possibility that all those mixed up stems and caps belong to more than one mushroom species (cubensis) and we all know it is a dangerous practice to be careless about eating unidentified mushrooms, right?
I know you and your buds are excited to be getting into shroom-picking, whether it is to just get high and have fun or possibly let the mushrooms teach you their ways; but it helps a great deal to be patient. Shroom season just began so you will have a few more good months of picking, and with each pick everybody gets better at doing it. Hopefully your next harvest will be better. -Definately use paper lunch bags next time instead of plastic. Paper bags let the mushrooms breath and then when you get them home they are not a pile of mooshy-mush.
The other mushroom you talked about is spelled Panaeolus subbalteatus, and you probably were not finding subbalteatus, you were probably finding the non-active Panaeolus campanulatus or Panaeolus antillarum, they're extremely common in florida cow pastures growing from dung.
Washing your mushrooms is sort of a no-no. Like people already said the magic chemicals contained in psilocybian mushrooms is water-soluable, and dunking your mushrooms in water essentially washes a good portion of the magic out of the mushrooms. Some people take a damp cloth and just wipe the surface of the caps clean of dirt and wash the stems up a little bit, but it isnt really neccessary if you practice good collection techniques in the field.
Good luck man, post more pictures again if you can.

shit, you're in bradenton. Throw that nasty batch aside and go pick some the correct way. They're popping up down here now. Use paper bags, cut them with scissors, keep the dirt & sand out of the bag. It looks like those babies were hacked out of the poo with a plastic butterknife and baptised in mud... no offense

Ya, sounds like good advice. It started to rain again here in bradenton, so I should be going out hunting again. Hopefully we will find more cubies. Thanks!
