So I needs to mostly leave it alone.  The coir honestly did look light colored and dry before I overmisted everything today.

I want to mist until the coir darkens rather than just to cover with fine droplets.

if ur coir is at proper field capacity and the tub is dialed you ideally wouldnt need to mist at all
imo dark coir would be too wet ... but thats a hard scale to draw the line at being "too dark" or what have you

That’s definitely too wet you can see it almost starting to pool.

Misting isn’t supposed to supply water to the mushrooms, it’s only to keep surface conditions good for pinning.

If it’s too dry you could bottom water it, but misting that much is going to damage the surface myc and cause it to mat up which is bad for the pinset and also slows everything down.

Coir hydration is imo one of the more overlooked aspects of cult. I didn’t even realize I had been making mine suboptimal for years because I had good results but I also had to mist occasionally. Once you find the sweet spot you won’t need to do anything.

I've read in a few places that you should reserve something like 1/4 of your coir for a top layer. Should that be misted after you put it on top and level it, or should it be kept on the dry side (couple drops if you squeeze it hard) like the rest of it?

:whathesaid:

its a weird thing cult life.. mastering the basics really are the key to success
its easy to get overthink and overanalyze but at the end of the day you need to focus in on:
clean cultures, clean spawn, and well prepped coir + dialing your conditions

side note: don't take every tek to be perfect and will work exactly as written,
you might need to make adjustments depending on how you get things done

So, just wanted to let you all know, I started my Journal about making tinctures. It's still under construction but I would be happy to discuss and get some suggestions/critics from you  Going to start with it probably at the beginning of next month. Since I still need some material to work with and have to distill the ethanol first.

And thanks again to AyePlus for all his help and suggestions! Because of him, I am starting this journey

What you want to do is stick them to the side of the jar then you can smack the bottom of the jar against your hand to bring them down the sides using momentum.

Think of when you suddenly stop in your car, you get pushed forward out of your seat. Same idea but instead of froward you want down. So you hold the jar with one hand and swing down into your other palm.

Don't IMO. LI would be a useless vector of possible contam in that scenario.

Pro tip (not my idea, can't remember who's it was but I'm not claiming credit for it (pretty sure they also made a quick write up about it):

Before you open the jar, make sure you tilt it to create a slope in the grain. Drop the wedge at the bottom of that slope. Close the lid. Gently roll the jar. Voilà!

Edit: I think it was either Derryald or Milkboy. Damn I'm not certain here.

Faster colonization and more inoculation points

Can quickly and easily inoculate 10 jars with one plate

An entire jar is shaken with li and coated with it

Works fine with good technique

LI is the shit. You confirm its clean on agar and use it right away. Shaves off a lot of time colonizing. Its not outdated in the least.

Sticking wedges to the glass is the bane of my existence. Those bastards never come off.

I drop them on top of the grain and then either spin the jar, or tilt it and lightly tap the bottom or side until it’s safely buried and then go nuts til it’s mixed in real good.

LI is cool for spur of the moment stuff. Like if you’re gonna spawn a jar you can blast a syringe in and suck it back up first. Then you have a spawned tub and a syringe to make more spawn.

You will have a very hard time convincing me a tek emphasizing wiping jars and approving SHIPs isn't outdated....

But hey, if it works for you, that's the only important thing in the end IMO.

Yes that would be a very wise and useful use of LI, IMO.
