50/50+ Casing, When to Fruit

Hello! I have completed 4 casings in the 50/50+ style. Peat Moss, Hydrated Lime, Crushed Oyster Shells, and Vermiculite. The strains are Blue Meanie, Koh Samui, Lipa Yai (sp), and Creeper SX. The casings have been sitting wrapped in tin foil for 4 days. Blue meanies are showing the most mycelium poking through the top layer. Maybe just under 10% of the entire top layer is showing signs of poking through. All the other strains are are well under 5%, maybe even 1% total coverage on the top. I have read the FAQ's but they are somewhat ambiguous as to when to place into the fruiting chamber. Does 4 days seem to long? What % would you fruit at? I will try to post some pics if I can acquire a digital camera this evening.

I suggest putting them in the fruiting chamber 2 days earlier than this, when the mycelium fist begins to show up in the valleys of the casing layer.

Whats the reasoning behind fruiting them 2 days earlier??? Just kinda curious.

I would have to agree that these were put in late, but when I noticed the mycelium coming up,I decided to wait until the next morning to fruit(lazy)and that is what I found. So I took pics.
ANNO is right,as soon as you see it coming up evenly(as evenly as those)then fruit.Because they will continue to grow for a day or two before they stop,to begin fruiting.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.
Unfortunately, we are out of the 50/50+ casing mix. Is there something else we could patch with? How about just a little bit of verm and brown rice flour after nuking in the microwave?
Doc34, How long did it take for your casings to get to that point?
Thanks in advance! Eerie

The pics were taken on 5/17/04

these were taken on 5/22/04 VVV
 these on 5/23/04VVV

And these were taken on 5/24/04VVV

The first flushed failed due to neglect on my part,I'm just useing these as an example as to when to start fruiting. After they pinned,I had to leave town for a few days and the results were devastating.

Heh, somehow leaving them for a few days helped a ton on first flush, I don't understand it.
J/W what are the whitish things growing up off a bunch of those mushrooms and are all those smaller pins aborts?

These white things?VVVV

lol, they are a mutant,I assume.I found this strain to have a few of them.
And unfortunately, yes all of the other pins aborted, but, let me point out that it was my fault, not the strain in general. This is a great strain to work with.Very fast to colonise and it fruits abundanlty, but,it doesn't do well with neglect.

oh well, I am doing EQ and I had a pinset not as even as yours going in, though there were a couple fat ones (and tons of overlay) and just leaving them a couple days, somehow, turned out many large mushrooms and not a single abort on the whole casing.
errie just patch with verm, if you used BRF too then I would think the mycelium would just entirely colonize it, because its the same thing as your substate (possibly)
