poor flushes and depth of substrate
    #2809158 - 06/19/04 06:34 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

High to all you growers outhere!

I have a situation - mushrooms won't fruit in abundance all over the surface of the substrate, but are somehow scattered , growing single, in other words, my flushes are poor. I saw pictures where mushrooms are fruiting in such abundance so close together in clusters that substrate is almost not visible. What could be the reason for my poor flushes? I thought maybe the depth of substrate - compost made of straw and dung, which is aprox. 3" deep? Is it not deep enough, so the mushrooms haven't got enough sources to grow in larger quantity?

Please help me out here. Thx!

Do you use multispore injection or do you isolate a strain and use agar?

If multispore, you could have trouble getting a great fruiting substrain. It is more of a turkeyshoot.

I use syringe with spore solution (sporeprint with water). You think the abundance of flushes depends on isolation of one strain, like cutting the mycelium grown on agar? So, you think it is not possible to get abundant flushes by inoculationg rye with spore syringe and then further colonization of compost with this spawn? Is there any other way to increase flushes? What about the depth of substrate - does it have any significant impact on flushes?

thx again !
