"Although no correlation was evident between urinary levels of this molecule and the severity of schizophrenia symptoms, our data point to a subtle but definite role of this endogenous pyschotomimetic molecule in ASD and schizophrenia."
This line in combination with other researchers not being able to observe similar results in similar tests would suggest we take these findings with a grain of salt.
Definitely interesting though, a 2X increase in urine bufotenin seems substantial. I wonder what would happen if someone who was on the ASD spectrum consumed bufotenin. Would this push them temporarily closer to symptoms mimicking a schizophrenic disorder? Inversely, I wonder what would happen if medications were developed to interfere with the biochemical pathways resulting in bufotenin synthesis.
All fascinating stuff!

Certainly, there needs to be more research. These are all fascinating questions.

every now and then i like to seek for recent studies that include "toxoplamsa gondii" and psychiatric symptoms.. or psychological / character impact by it on humans... really interesting too.. someone in some study suggested, schizophrenia may be 'a smyptome' by toxoplasma gondii as well...

Except schizophrenia is not a symptom, but an entire illness. T. gondii could cause some similar symptoms to schizophrenia, but the causes of schizophrenia as such are very different, partially hereditary even.

I'm convinced my case of schizophrenia was caused primarily by a latent lyme infection combined with chronic and acute exposures to mercury. Mercury acts as a toxin amplifier. For example, when it is combined with lead, it increases the lead's toxicity by 100 fold. It is also the most toxic non-radioactive element known to man.
After years of chronic exposure wore me down with gradually increasing health problems, I ended up with an acute mercury exposure which pushed me over the edge, giving me a full blown psychosis that never went away.

i know its not a symptome but a whole lot of different psychiatric diseases, but it seemed in the paper, that people develope it out of toxoplasmosis, so to emphasize that toxo is the root, i coined it "as symptome of"
