Donating Plasma
    #28076199 - 11/30/22 02:09 PM (1 year, 1 month ago)

Hey guys, I'm behind on rent and just had to fix my car unexpectedly. I'm SOL and not sure what to do next. I saw an ad that said I could get paid 800 bucks in a month donating plasma. Do you guys know if it's safe to do so? Picking up Hep B is totally not worth it to me.

Technology has improved a lot since 2001... I think your only risk would be getting a bacterial infection but the chances are so low.

Yeah it's fun, probably should only do it once every other week, drink lots of water and eat healthy.

The less often you do it, the better, but I don't think there's a whole lot of long term side effects beyond scarring.

The techs are usually really warm and chatty too.

I did it twice a week every week for years in grad school.  First time was a trip... Greyed out hard as fuck on the first draw cycle, nearly passed out but was like, naw I'm good.  After each draw they push the rbc back into you, I perked the fuck up and was like what the fuck was I thinking.  The phlebotomist was like LOL when I told her.  Another time they didn't wrap me up well after donating.  I walked out to my car, inside my car I'm wondering where all this fucking blood is coming from.  Head back in, there is a massive blood trail I left behind as I walked out.  They give you an anticoagulant to help the process.
:lolsy:

It was fine though.  Good for some extra scratch at the time.

I've donated on and off for about 15 years and never had any problems except my iron does get a little low after prolonged donating if I'm not on top of diet and supplementation, but it decreases on its own anyways so I just pay extra attention when I'm donating.

Drink lots of water even on days you don't donate and eat extra protein and you'll be fine. They do a preliminary physical initially and then every year after that. They also draw labs every six months I think to check protein and hemoglobin and for bloodborne pathogens, and I am quite certain they check your plasma for pathogens every donation.

Also, every time you donate they check your vitals and hematocrit. They might also check plasma protein at that time?

It's really not a bad gig. Bring a book or headphones and  chill for an hour and make some cash. I've been thinking about going back to it for a month or two to make a little extra cash.

if its done medically responsibly and properly, i think its a noble way to rent out your body to save lives and make ends meet.

in my neck of the woods $ 800 extra in the month is a fat tit of money, given how little effort you invest.

In my country all you get is a couple cups of tea, you get not a cent fior a transfusion. I feel; that robs people of a way to bring in extra bread, abd robs hospitals of donor blood products.

I'm not sure how it works in other countries, but in the U.S. you get paid for plasma because the plasma is sold to pharmaceutical companies to make medications. There are a few company is like biolife and biomat that handle the donations and sell to various companies.

You do not get paid for donating blood, which goes directly to the hospital's blood bank and is used for transfusions.the donations are handled by organizations like red cross.

The donated blood is then spun down into separate components for transfusion such as plasma, platelets, and packed red blood cells.

So, I'm wondering if the plasma donations are just happening in  countries with for profit healthcare and not countries with universal healthcare?

Damn, $800 per month is quite a haul.

I used to do this to get some extra money for weed, but I think I was only getting $50 per week, and I had to go twice a week to get that.

The clinic I went to was across town (taking the bus). It was so time consuming that it almost wasn't worth it! Lol

That sounds like a good chunk of extra money if you can stomach it.

I probably wouldn't be able to do it, I don't do well with needles. I've gotten a lot better about it as I've gotten older. Today I almost don't have a problem with them, but even when I'm totally calm about it, a couple of times I nearly passed out for no reason at all. Granted that was when there was a needle in me for an extended period of time, but still. I didn't even feel it and wasn't thinking about it, and still nearly passed out, had to ask them to stop for a minute.

So sadly this would not be a money maker for me, but it sounds like a good one if you can do it.

I've read it's legit, never tried it though.

One fallback if you need a little bit of loot, try donating sperm for almost $100 each load.

Would be interesting to know you fixed your car by selling your sperm.

I’ve been donating 2x a week for years. A friend of my was a nurse at a center and got me into going. I feel like I’m helping someone and I get a little bit of pocket change  in exchange, not the worst deal and I’ve never had any bad experience or negative health as a result.
