Preserving fungi collected on road trip

If someone was going on a road trip, what would be the best ways to preserve their fresh picked fungi for the next several days to couple weeks before they get home and have access to a fridge, oven, etc? I saw one website said putting them in a brown paper bag with a wet paper towel can extend their shelf life in original form. At the other extreme, are there methods for "flash-drying" one can do in a hotel room with basic supplies? What about putting in a ziploc with silica packets to desiccate, or some kind of vinegar or alcohol solution to pickle it?

alan places them over windsheild vents in his car on high and tries to coverhimself with as many spores as possible while preserving specimens in exact circumstance u are explaining. otherwise a breezy spot in the winter sun is good. air movement is the key.

I put them on my dashboard.

For smaller collections that may get mixed, I put them in small paper bags first.

In a car I would put them in a tupperware if you want to keep them fresh - the wind from driving will dry them out really fast otherwise.

Mushrooms have a lot more water than a few ziploc packets can absorb, and there may be not enough air movement to get the humidity out of the mushrooms and into the desiccant. Vinegar or alcohol will preserve them.

Vinegar is good if you plan to eat them, mushroom pickles are delicious. Add sugar and spices.

Alcohol works for keeping the original form herbarium specimens but specimens preserved in alcohol take a lot of room in storage so it'd be better to take good photos and save dried material.
