US Army had an official policy of naming aircraft after native tribes. I think the official regulation has been repealed, but the tradition appears to live on.

You see that new stealth bomber? Neither did I.

Heyoooo!, but for real they basically didn't show it. How long do we think that thing has been flying around blowing things up? 15 years?

yeah, they're basically showing stock renderings of a b-2 instead.  I read a quote saying something along the lines of "you can hear it but you can't really see it"

maybe it has some kind of optical camouflage to go along with reduced signal emissions and smaller radar cross section

I appreciate the feedback though, and agree with your take about some grand ideological confrontation. Oceania and Eurasia are dependent on each other, a war makes no sense.

Oh I don’t know man. The boss seems pretty smitten with the Maoists from what I can, or could see here on the ground, at least until a few months back when the medical tyranny was abruptly lifted after the protests (but that must have been the result internal pressure/division in my opinion).
At that time there was a reemergence of old school communist slogans on big video screens outside which seem to have been stopped (fireworks also were interestingly allowed again) now, but they are still playing a TV series on CCTV which makes out Mao to be a kind of saintly figure and is definitely rehabilitating Maoist propaganda.

I agree it’s not full on old school communism but even if one takes something like property, the state here still basically owns everything and can do whatever they please.
If they want to shut down your business because, for example, they suddenly decide they don’t want English training schools anymore, then they can and will.

And that’s not even getting into the pandemic which was like something out of dystopian fiction and definitely an example of statism over capitalism unless of course you belonged to one of the select few who got ludicrously rich (which is the essence of communism in a nutshell!).

Jack Ma is another case in point. What a businessman owns still ultimately belongs to the state if they so decide. I’d argue this to be far more communist than capitalist because ultimately there’s no real protection from their edicts even if people are ‘allowed’ to get rich.

Xi himself called it ‘adaptive Marxism’ and I’d go along with that as there are both communist and capitalist elements but just like the old school variety of communism, let’s be clear, absolute power is the real drive and aim. Beyond power itself, the old school marxists/communist never really had any actual ideological principles that they were not willing to dispense with at a moments notice (Mao famously once declared himself to be a rightist/conservative). Likewise, although one would probably assume that the Neomarxists in the west have no ideological connections to the Marxists/communists of China (after all, China certainly does not support tranny or even gay rights) that would be a very superficial analysis in my opinion, when considering the driving motivations of the Neoliberal or radical left agenda: tyrannical power!

At the end of the day, being power mad ideologues, they (through there may well be rival factions going at it) have far more in common with the Maoists than the pragmatic Deng Xiao Ping. I doubt real capitalists would have implemented a medical tyranny at the expense of the nation’s economy.

Definitely true. Xi moved from more openness and relative market economy (which was working) back to more totalitarianism. Obviously he thought "freedom" had gone a bit too far and needed to be reigned in. I read one article saying that the younger members of the politburo disagreed.

It's hard to evaluate what effect that had on their slightly faltering economy, because the world economy was trending down too.

IMO on a strictly economic basis, China would clearly benefit from taking Taiwan back sooner rather than later because Taiwan absolutely controls the chip market for the next decade. Taiwan produces 92 percent of the world's supply of highest level chips, and Taiwan and China together produce most the less sophisticated ones. We are aware of this and are putting vast resources into making our own, but that's expected to take 10 years. No idea why it took us this long get on this, especially considering the geopolitics.

That being said, I don't even want to think about a Chinese military invasion of Taiwan, or the American response, which Biden at least is talking gung ho. But it's also hard to envision a non- violent arrangement. Taiwan is a huge economic success which raises the stakes for all sides, beyond the autonomy issues. IDK how much "freedom" Taiwanese people have, but it's more than China would give them.
