Catathelasma ventricosa in GA?!?!?

Went for a small hike this morning to get out of the house. I saw these guys in a stand of loblolly pines, I thought they were tricholoma.... But they were massive! Largest approx a foot across...so can't really be tricholoma. After checking multiple.things I landed on Catathelasma ventricosa. Now from what I understand this mushroom is already extremely rare in its range and possibly never recorded from the state of GA.
I believe this could be an undescribed Catathelasma sp as it doesn't exactly match what I've seen for any of the other species... I did not collect them, only photograph and kept walking.
What say the experts?

Looks like it. I don’t think it’s a new species. There has been observations on iNaturalist from GA, but not many. Cool find!

I don't know why I always forget about inaturalist
Definately super rare and definately neat to find! May never see one again based on how often they seem to be observed.

You found the real Catathelasma ventricosum - a species described from Alabama in 1896 as Lentinus ventricosus and moved to Catathelasma by Singer in 1940. What we call Catathelasma ventricosum on the west coast is undescribed.
I sequenced a collection of this from Arkansas and it doesn't match anything else in Genbank: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/102798039 / https://mushroomobserver.org/482027
It's not very common - next time you find it you should make a good collection and spore print so whoever decides to name the west coast species has good material to study and compare with.

Ohhhhhhh ok, guess maybe I read things wrong or maybe the information is bad that I found... Admittedly I could have done more due diligence but time is something I'm very short on these days.
I will absolutely make a collection and print next time I see one and send it to you if you're interested or make sure it gets sent somewhere to be properly documented and sequenced!!
Thanks Alan!
