In the search for a sensible, centrist candidate, Musk chooses DeSantis

Elon Musk says he will back Trump rival Ron DeSantis in 2024 if he runs for president
Quote:
“Yes”, Musk said in a tweet when asked if he would support DeSantis in 2024, after suggesting he had not found his ideal candidate among Democrats.
“My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centrist. I had hoped that would be the case for the Biden administration, but have been disappointed so far,” Musk tweeted.
I'm eager to hear everyone's thoughts on how Lord Elon pulling for DeSantis is good, actually.

Weird choice for a free speech absolutist to endorse a book banner. This just goes to show the whole free speech thing is just marketing.

Yikes. Not surprised, but it still is rough to hear since he has so much power and influence. You ain’t kidding how it’s fucking weird seeing people like Musk, whose identity was built on science and logic, endorse someone as detached from reality as desantis

"Look guys, I'm a socialist, just not the kind of socialist who believes in socialism. Capitalism is the real socialism. Suck it nerds."
I think it shows just how far gone Musk really is to see DeSantis as a sensible centrist.

I don't know.
No one wins governor by +20 points without some democratic votes. That being said, Desantis is primed to be a formidable candidate, he is 44 which is highly attractive to numerous voters after the geriatric presidential administrations the US has had to stomach recently.
I have been known to straddle both fence posts at times.....and I would have considered voting for him, but the whole flights for immigrants was repulsive to me.

The goal of civilization is to maintain a higher standard of living than we experienced in the wilderness. This cannot happen when being flooded with irresponsible migrants because eventually, you're in an urban jungle with predators just as dangerous and resources just as scarce as the wilderness you came out of.

I don't know how Joe Rogan can support DeSantis when DeSantis is against marijuana legalisation and joe is all for it.
I think he just likes that he kept Florida more or less open during the pandemic.
Mah freedums n whatnot.
Musk has ran on publicity stunts the last few years, and right now he's running twitter into the ground at a cost of $44 billion US.
He's painting himself as pretty incompetent and out of touch, so down the track I find it hard to see his views having as much weight as they have in the past.
Plus DeSantis is typical tax cut for wealthy, deregulation etc. I mean he voted more than 90% with Trump, but he at least has the facade of gentlemanliness, the touch of decour Trump bashed.
Trump ran in 2016 on a populis movement to rid the swamp of corruption. He used the argument that he knew the system was corrupted because he used the corrupted system to benefit himself, and that he would overturn it if elected, which he evidently did not do, quite the opposite rather.
Anything could happen, I still think Trump would swash DeSantis, but all of Trumps shenanigans seem to be catching up to him, well have to see if his teflon can withstand the pressure once again though.
I think it depends on whether republican voters see Elon as a fighter for what they believe in, and I suppose he has tried to open the floodgates of 'free speech' without any limitations on twitter, and has tried to reinstate some individuals of their favour.
Over the next two years though, I don't think Elons image will recover when Twitter inevitably fails, it's on a trajectory to oblivion atm and I don't know how that can be spun in a positive way, but I'm sure we'll see some attempts to do so when it happens.

Congrats on waking from the coma you fell into in 2014, but the right has adopted new talking points.

Given Musk's downward momentum, this could be a good thing.
It's also another example of Trump's funding problems, and he might not realize it yet because he doesn't listen to smart people. IDK, maybe Trump's not really running and he just wants to fleece his MAGA goofs a little more.

On the topic of Trump's funding issues, I just saw his super pac spent $3m on his legal fees in one month. Lol
I wouldn't be surprised if you were right though. It's a good strategy, pump these people for money and hope the lawyers make the issues go away. I saw he could be on the hook of for like $700M in NY though. That could hurt. I'm not sure the super pac will rescue him then, simply because they probably can't afford to.
Back to the OP. Musk is doing all sorts of sensible stuff like overpaying for twitters by $10B. I'm not sure I'd trust him in this moment of desperation.

Some would say $19 billion (US)

I think he leveraged like $16B from Tesla to make the deal happen.

Yes, vote for DeSantis, he likes federal handouts which Elon will probably need for Twitter.

Luckily, Twitter isn't too big to fail. I bet Tesla is though.
Let's not even go down the healthcare road, even many conservative voters realize we are getting scammed.

I don’t think the banks that lent Musk the money to buy twitter are going to let it fail. They’ll bring in one of Dorsey’s apostles to hold stewardship after they revert everything back to pre-Musk standards. If the advertisers don’t stabilize soon he’ll be out.

I think your view of "wilderness" is skewed.
