Yea they are great mushrooms! Not uncommon in this habitat either.
Really good eating too.

Thanks! One reason they look good is I included the full size images in this post directly from Mushroom Observer, so they haven't been compressed or resized in any way. Another reason is that they are all taken with the aperture wide open, ISO all the way down and 30 to 100 photos stacked with Helicon Focus 8.

I started scrolling through the photos and thought, "Damn this is some good photography" so I scrolled back up to check the username and it all makes sense now.
Alan, I will gladly consume every one of your photos (and videos) at this time since my local mushroom hunting season is officially over this year.
Thanks

It's always mushroom season somewhere. Right now northern Mendocino county is pretty good.

Never tried eating coral fungi. Are these especially tasty? They look a bit tough, but I imagine they could do well in a stir fry or a soup.

Not especially tasty, the chef needs to add the flavor. They aren't tough.

Nice photos, as always. Thanks!
And also I learned something new today:
Quote:
Members of this genus have been thought to be ectomycorrhizal with various species of pine, however, there is now evidence that all members of the Gomphidiaceae are parasitic upon other boletes. Specifically, Chroogomphus species are thought to be parasitic on various conifer-associated Suillus species, with this parasitism often being highly species-specific https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chroogomphus

I am not sure, I just really like mushrooms. I hope whatever it is, it's contagious.
The Entoloma subincarnatum ended up having a really cool looking spore print in UV light.

Yes - HDR combines a few exposures for more dynamic range. I am combing lots of exposures for more depth of field.
