Understanding comtams.....
    #28067198 - 11/24/22 06:13 PM (11 days, 21 hours ago)

Ok so another simple question but i am still learning....

Recently switched to a CVG mix from a manure based sub.  Everything is going great started 15 tubs and they are all going great except this morning i noticed a little green on one tub.  I have a polymer that i use to treat it.  Super absorbant powder that litterally sucked the water out. Works great.  But my question is this........

If i am using CVG, why is there any contams?  If CVG has no nutrition in it, how can there be contam?  What is the contam feeding on?  The mycelium?  The starch from the millet?  There has to be a food source for contam to grow, so what am i missing?

Again its my 2nd year in the hobby so i am still learning.  Just looking for someone to point me to a resource for a little more info on contams

The contamination uses the coir as a vessel for growth and absorbs the moisture and micro-elements available.

If you're sure it's your cvg then you should try to pasteurize it first however chances are your culture is the culprit.

the two common reasons are: spawn that was contaminated or not fully colonized, or coir that was contaminated with something nutritious. the way you rule out the coir is you prep a batch of just sub and leave it in a tub to see if anything grows
