MushieMafia said: If yall are gonna do this you need to make sure the jar is a perfect fit for the amount of mushrooms you want to store. Too much space in the jar means air is in there which also means moisture. Silica gel packs arecheap on ebay and i think its deffs worth it but each to their own
Yeah, I was going to say that I use mushroom material as my silicagel, and jam it in there as tightly as I can pack it. I'm also eventually just grinding it up, at which point I'll be heating and venting the jars multiple times to create redundancies. So I can really cram my jars full, no need to look pretty....
Whoa finally someone who thinks like me! For the future I'd even order a vacuum pump for sealing jars. No oxygen, no moisture, just perfectly dry mushrooms that will keep forever!
I've thought about something similar. I have one of these for working on cars: https://www.amazon.com/Mityvac-MITMV8500-Silverline-Automotive-Vacuum/dp/B0002SQYUA
Hand-held vacuum pump. I'm sure you could get a much cheaper version of the same thing. Then you would need to find some sort of one-way valve you could silicone to a jar lid - ideally it would have a 1/4" barb on the end of it so you could attach a hose to it and then the other end of the hose would go to the hand-held vacuum pump. Just pump the handle a few times to pull a vacuum in the jar and the one-way valve would keep the vacuum in place. Would be nice for being able to open the jar to get a small quantity, replace the lid and get the vacuum back. Easier than dealing with vacuum bags, and less waste.
A check valve like this, glued to the jar lid would work well: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X2NZVLH
Little late to the party here but Foodsaver sells vacuum attachments that go on the top of both size mason jars. You hook your Foodsaver hose to a little nipple on top and pull a vacuum on the jar. Once it pulls the vacuum the seal of the lid does its thing. I had both of them but when I moved to Mexico I got rid of them thinking my new FS didn't have the hose attachment. The other day I was cleaning it and guess what? I was a dumbass.
If you had the attachment for the jar you could use pretty much any vacuum pump you have and just reseal the jars after every nibble, no bags, no fuss, no muss.

Cased grains - this jar was a little too bacterial for me to want to spawn it to bulk so I cased it and sat back.

Looks like work/love is covered, that and boy needed a casing.
It should start popping normal pins soon though.

Casing PE helps big time. I find it also produces less blobs the first flush and because PE is a thirsty girl it provides a much needed reservoir for it to drink from. You'll definitely see a difference when you case. Looking good though Murder, you're on the right track. Just give it a good, compacted 2" casing next time.

I always just pile my fruits into the dehydrator trays until it resembles an accordion, put a 10lb weight on top to smash it shut and let it ride for like 48 hours

eat em fresh bro. Way better. You can vacuum seal em in 1/2 ounce packs like In Amsterdam.
They turn into rocks if you dry em and are hard to use…
Those look good!
