Thanks Moopers! The caps have definitely flattened but they're still so short! All the ones I've seen images of show them with long stems. Wonder what caused them to be short - an inch and a half at most?

Things that have made shorter fruits in my grows:
- A lot of FAE, often when I have done shoebox tek, but this hasn't made them as short as 1.5 inches for me. Usually the fruits are shorter (3 inches or so) with thicker stipes. If outdoor, caps nearly as wide as they are tall.
- Substrate dried out or was under-hydrated to begin with. Mushrooms are mostly water. Less water = less mushroom.
- Stress from bacterial contam, usually can smell and/or see it
- Genetics - haven't had short nats, but I have had a really short cube grow where everything was normal/clean.
Good luck on the next flush!

they make cute little clusters too

or look like harmless fat babies

they are spaced out

and not to be underestimated. i had 2.5g (!) fresh yesterday in the morning. and i felt their peaceful colorful spell until the afternoon.
but then again i am very sensitive to more or less all substances..
they're beautiful!

définitely get a print from some caps sprouting from the massive clusters. personally i have not had a long stretched pheno like this one yet.
you could try to give them a little bit more FAE (might require some gentle misting) and get ready to be surprised with a second flush showing very different specimens. in january i will be giving away some prints (i will keep you in mind)
enjoy your plentiful and pretty natalensis flush!!
edit: can you say more about your conditions creating this? (temp/humidity/fae...)

The albino Natal mycelium I have growing smells different from regular cube myc, more mushroomy, no sweetness. Unfortunately I don't have any other Nats running right now to compare the smell to. Those do look beautiful Reverend!

I would like to ask a question, which has almost definitely been asked previously... and hopefully answered too.
So, lots of people believe that Nats are better than regular cubes. Less risk of a bad trip, and more euphoric (by some accounts)
(1) Is it that there is something absent from Nats, that exists in regular cubes? (2) Or is it that there is something in Nats, that is absent from regular cubes? (3) Is Nats going to be a long term game changer? Like auto-flowering strains were for the cannabis community.
So thank you to anyone that ventures a reply :-)

I am not a chemist, but I think a lot of folks think perhaps elevated levels of Baeocystin and/or Norbaeocystin, may contribute to the difference in experience.
https://psychedelicreview.com/baeocystin-ignored-psilocybin-derivative/ https://psychedelicreview.com/norbaeocystin-an-active-component-in-magic-mushrooms/
Speaking strictly for myself, Nats are a game changer for me, not only due to the difference in experience but the anti-inflammatory compounds they contain that cubes don't, are no joke.
Hey Spicolis_Dad
thank you for that :-)

lots of beautiful pics in this thread!!
so i’m running a nat clone that looked like this in a shoebox the first time i fruited it:

& here is the same clone culture in a pasty style monotub:

both tubs were with slightly bacterial spawn unfortunately, but just found the difference between the two very wild!! i was gonna take spore prints of the ones that are dropping, but im going out of town for a few days & didn’t have the chance to. hopefully i’ll have some good candidates for prints when i get back

I"m sorry man, you're growing Jack Frost. Still beautiful, but ain't no Nats. I stand by this 100%. Where's the adenate gill??
Adenate gill.
This has been stated before, and I still stand by it. No fucking way those are nats.

Yeah I’m not comfortable calling it albino natalensis if that’s sourced from the possible Jack Frost mix up tub. Even if it is legit there’s just too much questionable stuff around it to be sure.
Especially since I don’t know of anybody anywhere that’s had an albino or leucistic nat pop up so far, and it’s getting pretty popular.

The long stipes are probably due to me giving them the same amount of FAE that I give cubes; dub tub slightly to the side to provide a gap. Bulk sub is what I like to call my "Daddy's mix" that I use with all my mushrooms. It's an unmeasured mix of wheat straw, coco coir, manure & compost mix, vermiculite, and earthworm castings. The humidity in the dub tub was high. A lot of condensation. The temps were around 68-76.

i dont think it has been asked. What does everyone think of that new nat/JF cross floating around? Junk, over-hype, real? From what I have heard is that it will grow pretty vigorous in coco/verm.

@Panny your grow parameters sound great! and i think its a matter of genetics. try a different kind of natalensis or restart from spores, with a different selection. your tubs look fine!
ps. i like the lonely hearts club band cover in the background too

I've got this thicc overlay on my nat tub.

Should I scratch the surface to get rid of some of that?
Or
Should I spray the surface with h20 heavily to rough up the overlay? Adas said he sprays the thick overlay to damage it but My fine spray mister didn't seem to damage it very much.
I'm wondering if I should be more aggressive with it or if I should just leave it the hell alone?
Any help is appreciated! I don't know much about Nats yet.
