Is it ok to plug a guitar into pricey PC speakers?

I have an electric bass guitar, and I want to plug it directly into my bose companion 3 computer speakers. I have a little adapter for the wires. Any danger for my speakers?

Ease up the volume gently. If you hear any distortion, cut the volume and don't plug it in again. If not, you're good to go! You can't damage the speakers unless you drive them too hard too long, and that won't happen if you're careful.
