Natalensis REALLY likes FAE and light! They will still produce nicely w/out though. Great job El Vato!

They are not dropping any spores, tho...
I'd say not that common, very sturdy stems...
But I'll leave your doubt for more serious farmers

I had no idea, pretty cool that it's not common. Is the lack of spore a concern, though? That's definitely unusual, right? Regardless, I appreciate your input! Thank you

That's good to hear! From what I've seen, they are an incredibly resilient, robust species. I like the pheno, too. Reminds me of a thinner PE haha.

I've got no plans to leave again, so I'll be sure to up the FAE and see what happens. Thank you for the advice!

I'm loosening up the poly right after this! I'm curious to see how it alters, if at all, the physical expression. Thank you, I appreciate you!

My first Nat grow.

Experience:
Gentle and strong.
I’ve taken them at a bar, at home, and at two concerts.
I’m prone to paranoia with shrooms and weed. Cubes have an edge and a dark side that make me wary. But Nats are kinder to me. I did get paranoid one time on a higher dose but it was much more manageable than with cubes.
Right now these are my go-to for everything from micro to heavier doses.
Even a friend who is a beginner really enjoyed these at a low level. She said they made her present and be in the now.
No OEV for me but my buddy had quite a bit.

I had some nice CEV tho. I saw a beautiful yellow honeycomb in the distance with an eye in each section of the honeycomb. I wish it appeared closer. It was so peaceful. But I couldn’t explore it because I was standing at a concert and started to teeter.

Grow:
I ran three shoebox tubs.
Two fruited for six weeks without any distinct flushes so I never soaked the cake. Just kept spraying and fanning.
I’m not sure of the yield because they were consumed consistently and I didn’t weigh as I went along. But it was a good amount considering they came from MSS. Never got a full canopy tho.

One thing I would do differently next time is to add another hole on each side of the tubs so I don’t have to fan as much. I live in a dry area and fanning really dries out the cake. So the less I can fan, the better.

Took three total clones hoping to avoid the overlay I got on two of my three tubs.

I learned a ton from this thread. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge. I could totally see Nats being just as popular as cubes down the road.

Here's how my Natal shoebox is looking right now. It was neglected for a bit while I was out of town:

Now, if I'm not mistaken, this is a pretty common Natal pheno (i.e. small caps, thin, tall relative to other proportions). Is that correct? Or am I needing to dial in the environment?

If I am messing things up, my apologies to Mycelium Juice and Guerrilla. I will do better!

Exactly what I was gonna say. Up the fae and clone the big guy.

Haven’t found anything substantial enough to clone yet, I’m going back to spores
I think I may try these in a bin next to see if I can get a thicker specimen
Some of these blue/green like crazy after damage but that doesn’t mean much, I really want to get some of the greener type

Hey, man, there actually was some sporulation taking place in that tub!

I don't see any spore down on the substrate floor, though

Veil breaking while fruit soooooo tiny

first Natalensis grow, MS from T2 or T3. Any chance they’ll continue to grow another 20x-30x? Or did I just draw a bummer pheno in the genetic lottery with this culture? You guys have experience with Nats doing something like this? Perhaps being MS, some of the other fruits will take a different form…

Yep. This is what I got when the pins came out short and stubby. They'll get larger.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. I’ve got a few more nat cultures working on agar/grain. And i can always go back to spores if needed, but I was hoping to find a decent candidate for cloning in here.

Sometimes the first flush is like your first pancake. It looks fucked up but still tastes good. Let them go as long as possible. They should get bigger.

If only I could get only second flush shrooms, they are just better looking and meatier.  I've considered purposefully aborting the first flush, but never actually done it.

I'm on my first flush with these but not clear when to harvest because of the absence of a veil. Caps are huge but still short. No luck searching this thread for the answer either. What's the indicator of when to pull?

With nats, once the caps open its usually only 6-12 hours before they start to flatten out and  dump a huge amount of spores, IME. I try to harvest once caps are open but before they flatten out. Updated my Collected notes on growing P. natalensis (in sig) to reflect this. Curious if anyone else has advice about when and how to harvest nats.
