Just curious, what exactly is silly about the bag covering the holes?
It's possible that pulling the bags away to do work would cause a slight negative pressure in the SAB and cause air to be pulled in, or moving them to do work could cause air to move in or out without creating slight negative pressure. It could very easily end up being more detrimental than a SAB with adequate sized arm holes cut in it and moving carefully in the room and in front of the SAB. I think it's silly because a SAB is already a complete thing that functions extremely well with just a tub and two holes. The addition of the bags just presents a new vector for contamination while not actually adding any further sanitary function.
You do you, but I prefer not to have covers and let the SAB do it's job unimpeded.

I don't think he's actually using them for the SAB. Pretty sure he's only using them when the box is supposed to be functioning as an incubator and they're meant to stop air flow in and out of the box at that point.

I'll cover the holes on my SAB if I pour some plates for some added protection when they sit there for a day or two. Is it necessary? Probably not but it makes me feel better and it's never caused any issues for me

I made "flaps" that fall back over the hole when I take my arms out. They're made of kitchen paper and tape.. the only time I get contam is when taking tissue samples to clone or when starting from spores, which as far as I understand is fairly normal. My sab is in a walk-in closet along with most of the other gear with the door mostly kept open.. I dunno if it "works" or if it makes me feel better, but if it aint broke

I don't know why anyone cares what someone does with their equipment. If they want to cover their holes with toilet paper, that's fine. It's not effecting you in any way. If it makes them more comfortable to have baggies over the holes so be it. If that's all they can afford to do, cool. Lift each other up, don't put people down.

Holy shit, grow the fuck up. No one cares that much about what other people do with their equipment and no one is tearing anyone down. This is a discussion board and this is a discussion. If you wanna take it as a personal attack whenever someone says something to you that isn't just pure praise about everything you do then perhaps the internet isn't the place for you.

There's a side pin!!
You mean the one that was aborted by the myc in favour of the surface fruit?
I think, not sure, but I think that sort of supports my point. I don't know, I'm not a doctor.

So lemme see if I understand correctly…
1) doesn’t matter when I harvest, the idea of harvest before or as the veil breaks is purely to avoid spore dump?
2) the temp I dry at doesn’t matter.. heat won’t degrade actives? (My dehydrator can go as high as 100c)

Yes and yes, actually 100c might be pushing it

cool cool cool cool...
followup questions:
1) Is there a "right" temp to dry at? A sweet spot between heat application to drying time that keeps potency loss to a minimum?
2) why is it we dont want spore dump? because it can mess up with our cloned genetics?

I honestly don't care that much. I wasn't even going to say anything until he asked why people thought it was silly. I was answering his question, which makes that opinion solicited. Even if if wasn't, this is a place of discussion and people are allowed to discuss things. A disagreement is not an attack, and acting like discourse is an attack is far more detrimental to cultivation knowledge than a disagreement.

I dry mine at 71c (160F) and notice no issues whatsoever.
We don't want spore dump because it's ugly, spores taste like shit and it destroys bag appeal..plus then you've got a nasty layer of spores on your substrate. It isn't the worst thing that could happen but it's annoying AF...If my fruits take a dump I just use them for chocolates

Potency loss isn't really a worry because of heat, even at 100c it should be fine. People make tea with boiling water all the time. And the one paper I've seen about temp and potency loss only showed significant effects around 125C. Exposure to oxygen is what will cause potency loss, you want to dry them as quickly as possible.
Mostly cause it's messy, it doesn't have any negative effects on your grow. People do say that spores taste bad though which is another reason I've seen that they want to pick before everything is covered in them

Last I checked psilocin's melting point is much higher than 100C.
Personally my dehydrator goes up to 160F, a bit lower than 100C but I suffer no notable loss in potency vs drying at 90F

Mine goes to 165°F so I run it there and everything is fine.
