Is it expensive? Maybe you could multi layer it?

15 cents a piece. Couldn't find any rolls on Amazon that I was confident was actually heat film.

So this time I left the bag whole. Last time I cut off the bottom to make it into an actual sleeve and figured I filled the sleeves too high.

Still tore.

Maybe if I get the 8 inch wide bags instead of 7.

I guess an extra inch sounds about right to prevent tearing

Fingers crossed.

In the meantime, I hit these bags I do have with a hair drier and they'll be perfect for wrapping plates when they go in the fridge for culture storage

As a matter of fact, I just re-wrapped my fridge plates. This will make it much easier to keep track of what I got put away.

ooh, nice. hopefully you can get them to withstand the PC cycle, but using them for culture storage seems super nice the way you have it set up

The 8x12 bags I just ordered had sizing instructions too and the 7 were about 1/4" too small according to the formula provided. Hopefully 8 isn't too big

it would be nice to be a tight stack, but as long as they aren't toppling over i'd call it a win.

What would happen if I left them in the foil until use? One of the main reasons I chose no-pour to start with is not having to set up the SAB timed to the PC cycle and then leaving it out while they cool.

That’s what I do. They come out of the foil in the SAB right before I use them.

No update on the shrink wrap, still waiting on the bigger bags but just wanted to say I've done the leaving in the foil thing my last couple of runs.

Just let them cool overnight and then leave them wrapped in the tin foil until next time I got the SAB set up, at which point I wrap them like hazy showed p9 doing. Works great, all my plates last batch were clean and just wrapped the second run today.

Hell there's even less condensation than when I was taping them with micropore before the pc

thanks for following up, psycho. the foil is just so dead simple & i also find there’s very little condensation or moisture that way. glad they seem to store fine on the shelf in the foil too!!

i’ve been brainstorming cutting foil in a way to make unwrapping them a bit easier. the way i’m thinking probably wouldn’t be the best for long term storage but if you’re putting them immediately in the SAB or in the hood i think it would make the foil a breeze to peel off. im up skiing rn but if im not too busy later i’ll play around with it & potentially
update

If you use the extra wide foil (25 inch) and you rip out a square you can set a stack of 8 or so plates right in the centre and have enough foil to completely fold over the top of the stack.

I'll take some step by step pics of how I do it next time.

Here's how I wrap stacks in foil. I went a bit high this time, I find 8 of my plates is ideal. Make sure you hold everything down at the top of the stack as you fold it over. One hand holds the pieces on the top of the stack the other hand does the folding.

Well the bigger shrink wrap bags are a bust too. Literally, they also bust open. The force of them shrinking also deformed a plate on each stack. Weirdly enough it was the 3rd plate from the top of each stack.

Don't think it'll help. It looks like it has to do with just shrinking the whole thing at once. Plus it already deformed my plates at this thickness.

bummer the shrink wrap didn’t work out, that would have been mad convenient. that’s super weird about them deforming the plates too lol really random. i appreciate ya giving it a go in the name of

:havesomescience:

at least the foil is pretty dead simple. hard to beat & if it works for long term storage, all the better

I guess the shrink wrap plastic is actually thougher than the polypropylene the plates are made out of. I imagine with your glass plates that would mean just larger tearing in the wrap.

Yeah, the foil seems to work just fine. Not sure about long term cause I've managed to find time to wrap with cling the next day so far but if I do happen to find an upper limit for how long they store in just foil I'll let you know.
