Will I get Fruits Before it's too Late?
    #2803768 - 06/17/04 11:45 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

So I'm in a bit of a predicament. I'm moving across country on or around August 1st For various reasonsI innoculated twelve jars yesterday(6/16) with an EQ spore syringe. I used approximately 12ml to innoculate 12 regular size (1/2 pint, I guess, or whatever the size is for the standard pf tek) canning jars. They are sitting in my incubator at close to 86 degrees Farenheit. Now my syringe was bought from a vendor, so it wasn't dark or anything, but I did see specks floating around. I know there are still many variables and uncertainties, but I was wondering if you think I can get some fruits before I have to take off on August 1(I have noone I can trust to care for my cakes- most my friends have moved away or don't use drugs). With some luck, I was thinking they might be 100% colonized in four weeks, pinning by five weeks, and maybe fruiting the few days before I must leave on August 1. I could still delay my flight, but, I'll be even more bummed if I have to spend an extra week or two bumming around here with all my friends gone while my EQ's still haven't fruited. I'm guessing my chances aren't good, but if you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it. (I was thinking that as soon as they are fully colonized i could cold shock them right away, and try to get them to pin and start growing fruits earlier that way, but I'm still a new grower and never paid much attention to time in the past as it was never much of an issue). I've already been advised that taking colonized cakes either in my luggage or my carry-on is a good way to get arrested, so scratch that.

I really don't see a problem with that.

All creatures tremble when faced with violence. All creatures fear death, all love life. If we can only see ourselves in others, then how could we possibly hurt another creature?

You should get at least one flush. One option is if they're a little slow finishing a colonizing a small portion of a cake would be to birth & cut small uncolonized parts off to hurry your flushes along.

if you have them at/around 86 degrees right now they might/most likey will colonize in less than 4 weeks. maybe 2 or 3 weeks which will give you a bit more time.

do you have an idea of what type of fruiting set up yet? and if you can get through to a flush or two, what do you plan to do with the cakes then?
wishing you luck! :rasta:

4 weeks wtf are you talking about?? I had EQ's/PB's that colonized in 1 week at 85F.

Substrate + jars = $20
Magic Mushroom spores = $12
Growing your own Magic Mushrooms = Priceless

to make them colonize quicker, make sure you have the holes from innoculation open, but covered with tyvek or something of the such. I use 2 layers of normal old coffee filter and never had a problem. Having the holes open allows for there to be airflow. When you have them open but covered with a filter have the jars colonizing upside down. This allows CO2, which is denser than the rest of the air, to collect at the bottom of the jar (the top of the jar really, just upside down) and then leave through the holes allowing oxygen in for the mycelium to grow quicker.

after 100% colonization, do a cold shocking/dunking in your fridge and you will speed up pinning hopefully
