Beware of the Zelle "Fraud Department" Meta-Scam!

This is a cross-post of a thread I made in the Pub because I believe its that important.
On last Wednesday, I got a text on my cell phone that said there was a "Fraud Alert for $480 from Walmart Supermarket". Shortly after getting this text, I get a phone call from a "804" number (first mistake). This guy on the phone speaks English but has an Indian-Hindu accent. He starts telling me that he picked up a scam and that the incident occurred at a Walmart Supercenter in Atlanta, Georgia. That was odd, because I live no where near there. But since scammers can use debit card info anywhere, I didnt think much of it. He then does this sequence of confirming that it was me on the phone. First, he sent me a text with a confirmation number. I read that. Then he did an email with a confirmation number, I read that to him too. Then he said to text my old login info so he could reset my account while the investigation was ongoing. I thought this was weird, and the account name and password looked weird, but I didnt think much of it (big mistake here).
After that, he says the investigation will take 24-48 hours to complete so don't login onto your account while they track the scammer. He also said a new debit card will be sent out and will be there in 1-2 days, which I thought was weird because that should happen after the investigation. Still, not that weird so I agreed then hung up.
This morning, i go to my bank and withdrawl money from my savings account since the money in my other account is gone. I told them what happened then I asked "Is the fraud department opened today?". The employee says yes so I called them in my car. I asked the guy on the phone, who spoke perfect English and had no accent, on the status of my fraud investigation. He said there was none. I was like, "What?". He looks at my account and finds a charge of $400 for a Zelle transfer. Couldnt believe it. The phone call was the scam! And I totally fell for it! Fuck!

Lessons learned:
1) The Fraud Department should never be a "804" number. It should be an "800" number! 2) Meta-scams are real (I can't believe it) 3) Never give online login info to the "fraud department". They will never ask for it. This where I screwed up big time. Hating myself right now.
I saved the real Fraud Department number into my phone so I won't get tricked again.
Scams suck.

Don't answer numbers you don't know. You'll never get scammed again.

I think a good rule of thumb is never offer information to someone who contacts you. Only give it to people you contact. Scammers piss me off..

Definitely that. The first sign i should have picked up was them calling me. Usually i have to call them to tell about a scam. It just felt so urgent and "real" by the Hindu-Indian guy on the other line. I fell for it hard
