stopped growth?
    #28033817 - 11/05/22 05:35 AM (2 years, 2 months ago)

so i made some brf jars recently (ig ~1 month ago) and since lil more than a week or so i havent noticed any more growth.
theyre all ~40% colonized now (regular pickle jars).
after noticing an apparent slow down in growth i made some markings on the jars a week ago to see exactly where theyre at. now a week later some have spread from that marking (like 2cm max, so not that much) but most havent spread anywhere.
are they wasted or should i keep going?

If they're still growing then let em keep going. It can take over 2 weeks for spores to germinate sometimes.

I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

You got contamination in all them bad boys. Those jars are waaaay too big for BRF. Half pints are best IMO.

Yep lots of bacteria. Your verm is too course also. If that course verm is your dry layer that's also gonna let a lot of shit in

I would take a spoon and scrape out small chunks till I got close to the un collonzed and just toss the rest. Maybe leave a half inch gap.

ah shame.... will do as happyhigh suggested... what causes bacterial contam? regular heat sterilization doesnt kill them right? also i got micropore tape on top of the jars so the coarse verm filter shouldnt be that much of a problem id guess?

Improper sterilization and syringes naturally carry bacteria.
No need for MP tape if you have dry verm layer.

This is a good example of sectoring in jars, right?

When there’s a defined border where the myc stops it’s safe to assume bacteria has colonized the “empty” part?
