I think it's fairly safe to say we know already that 1:1 is not an ideal spawn ratio at all and tends to throw out strange fruit and abnormal mutations at times.
All of my best tubs were 1:3 spawn:sub. Very little, if any overlay and produced a ton of fruit. I think they like low spawn but ymmv.

Really struggling with getting these guys to fruit. Love the colonization speed, but they always stall out and start accumulating metabolites before trich sets in. Took about 45 days to get a few side pins that amounted to about 6g dry.
A 1.5g dose was pretty intense though, so may give em another shot to see if the issue can be corrected.

Oh and I did the 2" compressed top layer thing as well. 1:2 wasn't bad either but I got cube looking fruits from that one.

Great info! I have added this to the Collected notes on growing Psilocybe natalensis journal.

*Not a real tek. Any resemblance to a real tek, living or dead, is entirely coincidental. The makers of this tek are not responsible for wasted materials, failed experiments, or pb&j sammiches being used as substrate.
A little background:
I was doing some Natty g2g (jar to bag) and a little spawn fell onto the floor of my SAB, which was still quite moist from a 70% iso wipe down (I got a small SAB so accidents happen from time to time )
After I finished the g2g, I thought to myself, "what should I do with the spilled spawn?"
"Ah! Stick it in a sammich bag to see if it still recovers despite being wet with iso!", I says to myself
So I do that, and it recovered just fine in like a day or two!
So a couple more days roll by and the time comes for me to make some shoeboxes. After finishing them up, I think, "What should I do with this leftover coir and verm?"
"Ah! Toss it in the trash!"
No...no, that ain't right...
I says, "Ah! I'll stick it with the Natty grains in the sammich bag!"
So I do that, and lo and behold: growth!
There's roughly 1Tbsp of spawn in that bag, if that. Well under the 1:3 ratio. I'm curious to see what comes of it. Figured I'd share it with y'all.

I have 15 shoe boxes going on to their second flush, 9 quarts of colonized grain waiting for their turn to go to bulk, and today I inoculated 45 quarts of Rye berries with one of my master jars.

I have another 48 jars coming soon. I’m going nat crazy this winter.

This is definitely the most secure way I have ever transported 36 jars at once or stacked them for storage.

Whoa, no disrespec'! Mush love to the big dawg faht, straight fahtnatic over here, I love what they've done.
The only reason I felt this sammich bag is worth posting is because of how well it's going with such a little amount of spawn (1Tbsp or less, like a 1:10[?] ratio), and it potentially being exposed to iso to boot.
I am in NO WAY attempting to pass this off as a real tek, or even a testament of skill. In fact, this is a testament to the resilience of the Nat!
For those interested, here's 2 shots 24hrs after the previous ones

I'm mostly interested in seeing how much fruit it's able to produce lol
And while I'm posting here, if I could get y'all's input, it'd be much appreciado.
I got this Nat bag

Do they look ready for bulk, based on these poor pics? (Sorry 'bout the poor camera )
It just reached full colonization today, purely going off of visual appearance. So essentially all visible grain is covered in mycelium. But being my first bag, I'm unsure if I should give it time to ensure it's colonized all the way through.
But that's essentially a consolidation period, and from what I've read no one consolidates anymore unless using PF Tek. But is that also true for bags? And what about Nats in particular?
