ID Help for a noob
    #2803136 - 06/17/04 07:05 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

I grabbed a sample shroom from a local field in Houston, Tx was hoping someone could ID it for me to see if it's good for eating. It came out of a cow field, the caps went from a dark brown/cinnamon to a light brown, to a almost yellowish white on the end of the cap. Bruised a purple color when damaged and the stem was hollow. The gills in the picture do not look how they did when I picked it. They were really close together. The gills got stuck together when I rinsed them with water (i got dirt in them). It did not have the circle thing near the top (think it's called a viel?). The spore print is a purplish color, however, it looks black in the pictures below. I think that is the best I can do with describing them. They were picked last night around 2am and just took the pictures 5min ago, so it is starting to dry and the whole cap looks brown except for the end of the cap where it is yellowish/brown/white. Any help in IDing would be greatly appreciative as I am a newbie.

It would appear to be a Cube to me. Maybe one where the veil had just broken and the cap hasnt fully expanded. This is just an initial guess from me, Do Not take my word for it, please wait for an expert to correctly identify.

Looks like you've got Psilocybe cubensis. Good job.
