Derrayld is on the nose. I'm not the most eco friendly person ever, but if I can, I do. I liked using ketchup cups, but hate how small they are and that they can't be reused.
Also... combined with making my own agar, a lot of money savings in the long run.
Hazy, thanks for giving me ONE MORE TAB to read... LOL joking. Thanks for the info, I will give it a read when I have more brains tomorrow.
Are you using pp ketchup cups? They are reusable.

I'm like 99.99% sure my on not PP: Diamond Multi-Purpose 50 Count Mini Cups with Lids, 2 oz, Clear.
They worked really well, but they are tiny and I would prefer to see the myc grow out just a little further. A little gripe, but I figure if I'm slowly upgrading my tech, I should start with the agar dishes.

I use plastic ones pre sterilized. I like that they fit together tight and also the gap is in the center of the two so parafilm works fine (although I hate parafilm and am never convinced it 'stuck' where it was put). I also like that if I look in and its all nasty, I just chuck it in the trash without opening to expose myself to whatever is in there.
There must be benefits to glass, or is it just the plastic waste?
I don’t care about plastic waste and glass is more expensive after I consider the cost of my time to reclean & sterilize. I use them for two reasons. 1) I keep accidentally breaking the plastic ones. The glass is way tougher and forgiving for me. 2) I can prepour agar before PCing so I don’t have to worry about a careful pour in my SAB.

Hi echochild
Here is a pic of my nice pyrex dish:

The gap as 3mm.
So you'll be fine! Wooooohooooo haha
My dishes are 15mm tall, and two wraps of 1.5"-wide saran works well.
I also use this same roll to place an X on the bottom of each dish before sterilizing a foiled stack in the PC. This X prevents the dishes from sliding around and I leave it on throughout the lifecycle of the dish. I also place strips of saran-wrap on my worksurface. My stacks were literally blowing around in the flow and I lost a couple dishes learning how to work with them my first time So far, this technique works wonderfully, providing the needed 2-d friction when using 100mm wide glass petris. And I never have to worry, think, or deal with it again when handling the dishes.
I also am not strong or coordinated enough to safely pour up the stack from the bottom dish to the top when using glass petris. So I use an alternate (although slower) approach to protect my pretty dishes I take the top dish in the stack and start a new stack. Then I pour. Essentially, each dish is transferred to the new stack, then poured.
Other than working with stack heights that comfortably fit the hand, I can't think of anything else to contribute. I really enjoy working with glass petris and I hope you do tooooo

Not to start something but you really should care about plastic waste.

Oh, and regarding the pressure plate, the Cadco 3T works well for my large pressure cooker. It has alot of good reviews. It cycles on and off like yours and dial's in easily to maintain a steady pressure.

you say 'not to start something' but then go on to start something.... with someone who uses glass petris

Thats how all glass dishes are, even the pyrex ones.

The only time I have had any contam issues is when I first got them, I tried to set them upside down, like plastic dishes - due to the larger gap, that is not a suitable technique. After pouring, I just leave them in my SAB until I'm ready to use them. I only close them up with parafilm once I've used them.
re: your heating plate, dunno if its incompatible with pc's, I don't want to give you bad advice, but as far as I know thats how all electric heating plates work... they reach a certain temp, then the thermostat turns off the heating unit, it then cools to a certain temp, then turns on again.. and so forth.

I wonder if lab parafilm holds better?
I've used grafting tape with plastic plates had no issues, haven't tried it on my glass ones, been using parafilm, which is indeed quite expensive. Might try cling film after this post.

That's originally why I opted for glass plates, however sterilizing them requires wrapping them in sealed foil which is also quite the pollutant, not really sure which is the lesser evil tbh

You want to 'word fight' a stranger on the internet on a topic with movable goalposts in order to prove to a crowd of unknown people you are more socially relevant and worthy than they are.
I'm not really understanding that, but if you really want to...
glass is tha poop - plastic is tha best! down with your team - up with my team! you cant win - I will win! you are not win! it was a setup - that turtle snorted coke! trump said the best plastic!
am I doing it right?
