Could you folks be so kind as to give me some recommendations on a good laminar flow hood?

A fan filter unit (FFU) is about the best you can do without building your own. A 23x23 inch unit runs about 500$ new on Amazon, though you can occasionally find deals on Ebay, Craigslist, etc. They are laminar flow units, just designed to be hung over a workspace and blow down (but work perfectly fine when placed on their side blowing across a surface). Proper lab laminar flow hoods typically cost a few thousand at the absolute low end for anything of actual quality. (You can also find FFU's for like, 50$ on places like Alibaba, but the shipping prices are ludicrous so... no luck there I'm afraid)
Though just so you know, building your own won't exactly be super cheap. A filter alone will set you back a couple hundred, plus probably another hundred on top of that for a decent fan that can generate enough pressure.
I personally don't trust the type of laminar flow device you find on Etsy and the like(LabRatz, etc). They use dinky little low pressure fans and cheap membrane filters. Perhaps they work? But if I'm going to pay 350-400$ for a "maybe" I'd rather save up another few weeks and get something in a decent size I know will actually do the job.

I have the same reservation myself.
This one popped onto my radar as well, but it also seems like it might be cheap and ineffective.

That looks similar to what a lot of people on here have. It's interesting as it ship free to South Africa, but you should ask that the FFU unit thread.
Edit: NVM I asked there because I want to know
