Peculiar condensation issues
    #28027969 - 11/01/22 03:03 PM (2 years, 2 months ago)

Hey hey!

Got an odd problem I couldn't find a specific match for via the search.

Have two tubs with great fae (tub is 7% holes) and a vermcoir sub that's about 2 inches thick fully colonized) The sub, even tho birthed at, maybe even over FC as well as it being always moist to touch, had problems containing the beady water surface, so an around the clock misting was in order to keep the desired/advertised surface conditions. Yes yes, I know a tub should in theory be left to do it's own thing but the microclimate from the outside of the boxes raised alarm to me on the count of what the general consensus is on the optimal appearance, so I interviened - constantly. Managed to keep the surface as guided, got a first flush of very thin not that big fruits, all opening veils at most 3inch (80% at 2), with lots of sidepins. They taste great and look neat.
So after the first harvest, I didn't wait and in the span on 12 hours misted the surface heavily, thrice even (because of the forementioned worries about it always looking dry in the first place, getting anorexic shrooms). To my newt eyes, it looked soaking (just 0.5l of water from the mister gone tho- about 60% of it for the tops of two tubs and 40% sides, can't be that much as opposed to dunking?) and the surface has been very wet to touch, applying few grams of force would leave your finger covered same as it would into a pool of water. To my shock, the water does still not beat! It definitely does not evaportate that fast, only explanation for me is the room being a gravity hotspot where the absorption of water by the sub is amplified. Now I stopped the misting, let the tubs (covered in poly and micropore for it's holes) just chill for 15 hours and to my surprise - no condensation on the top, surface, a tad bit on the sides. I decide to clear the sad looking ngmi pins that would definitely be aborts and check the surface close up, and the surface is very moist, all the remains - what little there is (tried to remove everything percisely with a tiny scalpel, leaving as little fruit body while slicing through as little mycelium as possible) is drenched, everything is drenched! There do seem to be new pins coming in.

Why is me water not beading? Have I drowned my myc? Has the surface layer been too irrigated? Do I got to dial me tub? Is it the FAE?

PICS are fugly, yes because this is post harvest, post todays abort clean, blue blood everywhere and and so on. Idk it looks dry, but I swear if you measured FC by the standards you set for birthing jars, it would be 3x over. Tubs look sad atm, I know, but it isn't simply a  misting issue nor is it total water in the sub issue, as increasing the weight of the tubs with water did not and does not not improve the surface conditions.

Did you start misting the surface constantly immediately after spawning? And are all those holes in your tub open? The big ones and the small ones?

Not really no. But rather early on. The big holes are covered with poly and small ones with micropore at the moment, to sustain the beads for an extra hour or two.

Alright, because that looks like waaaay too many holes. It looks dry AF in there. I like Pasty’s monos. As for misting, were you misting it before the surface was colonized? And were you using a fine mist from a few feet above, allowing it to gently fall onto the surface?

Didn't mist before it was colonized. Using mist so fine that it aggravates vigirous misting that causes pooling and extra tissue work chores. So fine it wouldn't hit the target from a feet above. But perhaps another squirter should be used and the distance increased, will try. Cheers! Should I then cover the bottom line of 10mm wide holes with food wrap? Could having the sub "too moist" at this point without having heavy condensation thanks to the amount of holes in the tub as the red flag be the actual issue here?

Yeah, I’d say you should cover most of the holes to try to dial it in better. Apart from that, I’m afraid I do not understand what you are trying to convey.
