Monotub winter grow temps
    #27958992 - 09/20/22 01:27 PM (2 years, 3 months ago)

Hi all, looking at growing through the winter but not sure I'll be able to keep heating on throughout (bastad energy firms). Was wondering what everybody's plan of action was on keeping temps optimal for grows through winter? Was debating putting my monotub inside a storage tub and using a heating mat, but read conflicting info on these mats for monotubs...

If you're gonna use anything, use a water tub filled with water and an aquarium heater to keep cold off.
I employed something similar a few years back when I started growing in the winter(uk).
I used some insulatory plastic sheeting I got from work, made a wooden box, that got lined with said plastic sheeting, and used an aquarium heater to provide warmth without overly heating or drying anything out.
Problem with heater mats is that they will just dry our whatever they're underneath. If you're gonna incubate, you want ambient heat, warming the environment. Not direct heat only heating up one tub.

U rekon I could get away with using a storage tub filled up 3" with water and the heater, elevate the mono tub like 6" or so above the water? And leave the lid off storage tub maybe?

Did you move your idea forward with a solution.

Have been scouring for a good concisely put together tek for UK or similar winter conditions.. seems strange that everywhere I look it's assumed that your house is going to be a constant 23c ... but advise is that below certain temp colonisation  and fruiting will stall .. not going to keep my house above 16 most of the time so what's the solution on a domestic scale?

Have seen dub tub tek for grain bags but not to contain a monotub set up.

My idea so far..
I've invested in two large black plastic trunk boxes, aquarium heater , digital thermometer plug. Then have two led daylight growing strips.

Going to create a hybrid Dub Tub / Monotub enclosure.
1st tub a warm water bath created with aquarium heater
The aquarium heater plugged into digital thermometer plug that turns on power to the heater based on air temp where the cabled thermostat is.

2nd tub dropped in on top of 1st and forced down to make the water rise around the sides.
During spawnbag stage , dub tub , the box temp operates with the thermostat in the box near grain bag.

Once colonization  has occured.... drop in the 3rd box , in this case the boomershroomer inflatable mono tub. This will sit on a wire rack.

The thermostat will be just inside the mid point of the monotub to regulate the heat to 23c

Once colonised  the led lights will , on timer , provide 8 on 8 off light.( right timings ? )

So.... main question  to the rest of the forum
1) anyone else have tek already for this?  Link and pics please  for ref
2) main concern will be GE and flow air any thoughts.. mine would be a hole or series of holes on the outer box lid with a filter to allow clean air in ..

Interested to hear from you
