I don't understand why the master gauge is trusted to be any more accurate than the gauge on the PC. It surely suffers from the same issues, no? it is after all just another presto gauge, so...
trust the weight for sure, but yeah can anybody weigh one for us please, and tell us what psi you are typically running at that weight?
Cheers fellas

I just did a quick 5 minute search and couldn't find the test tool they used. I did find out that it only costs $5 at my local university to get mine tested and calibrated though. I'll probably just do that unless the test pump is like $40. If that's the case I'll probably get one and test my gauge monthly during my cult season

In gauging and inspection, gauges need certified at specified times. That gauge in the video is sent back to presto once a year for re calibration and re certification.
I suspect if someone asked presto, they might be able to re check and re certify a customers gauge but given how many are out in circulation, presto might refuse to prevent an avalanche of requests.

I got two weights, one is 86.4g and I add 16.2g to it which together makes the weight jiggle @ 17psi on my clock.
EDIT: The second weight is 86.3g and additional washers weigh 16.2g, only 0.2g difference.

I think the other weight is one gram lighter and starts jiggling @ 16.5 psi but I have to weigh the whole thing incl. washers to confirm. Got it jiggling at the moment, will update tomorrow.
I only use the gauges to see how far away I am approximately before the weight starts to jiggle so I am not meandering too far away from the PC. Got my setting of the gas burner pretty much down and just have to dial it back and can go about my day. What I can say is that the gauge has not changed in the last 4 years, it still shows the same values (17psi/16.5psi)
We got pretty hard water here and I have to add vinegar when filling the PC and when I take the lid off I do twist a piece of kitchen paper to make a wick and put it up the gauge opening on the inside of the lid to get the water out. There is quite a bit in there. Maybe that does help.

I got really hard water too, you got any tips for removing build up?

Don’t bet on it. I had to buy a new jiggle weight. I got the kind that’s adjustable for 5,10 or 15lbs. It starts rocking perfect right at 15psi now, but if I didn’t have the good gauge, I wouldn’t have ever known the weight was bad. Just for curiosity sake, will anyone else with a presto weigh their weight for me. I’m curious if the actual weight is wrong or if it was something else causing it to not function properly. Maybe the cone could be misshapen.

You can just neutralize the water to 6 pH with acetic acid.

I think the water here is as hard as it can get. When I make a sterile water syringe there always precipitates a lot of lime when boiling tap water for 10 min in a pot with lid. Also ended up with sediment in LCs when using tap, it's all RO water now.
What I do is add 20-30 ml of 5% vinegar to the 3 quart of water that go in and there is virtually no buildup inside the PC. The only area that does require cleaning once a year or every two years is around the jiggle weight and the pipe the weight sits on. I use a kitchen paper soaked with vinegar or citric acid solution and put is on the lime scale on the lid and clean the softened scale off with one of those non-scratch scrubbing pads. The pipe I clean with a soaked cotton bud. The earlier you do it the easier it is, I'm lazy when it comes to this kind of things though.
Last time I made jars I forgot to add vinegar and when I got the jars out they had a lot of lime on the outside. Touching them after they had dried was like someone screeching with a piece of chalk on a black board.

87 gs Presto 23 qt jiggle weight, kicks off dead on 15 psi and the PC is brand new. Used it about 4 times so far.
The other variable is the diameter of the hole in the stem the weight sits on. Its pretty small so it wouldn't take much diameter difference to get it off a bit.

Mine isn't quite that bad but my jars are definitely cloudy.
I'll give it a go soon. The build up is messing up the rocker

Use a pH strip or meter to figure out how much you need to add. Shoot for 6. As long as your water has a stable pay, you only need to figure this out once.
