Eh, I dunno, I think Elon Musk could get away with a lot of vaguely illegal speech.

There is very little content that could even be considered illegal. Child porn? Speech intended to defraud someone of property. What else is criminal?

He said "Amnesty begins next week". So far, he's restored about 12,000 accounts, and the number is growing.

Do you think the government should pass laws regarding social media companies' content moderation?

Fox News was blabbing on about they have to make sure Twitter doesn't get kicked off the app store (which doesn't appear to even be considered currently). Small government right wingers want to regulate app stores now. Idiots.

Very little, correct, but the right is not absolute.

So general amnesty was a lie? Or will you just use the 'wait for it' line into perpetuity?

By what metric? Neo-nazi Andrew Anglin is back, while anarchist publisher CrimethInc is gone. Just because you like the current censorship model more than the last doesn't make it 'more freedom'.

This is where we disagree. It is Elon exercising his absolute right to choose what speech he sponsors.
I agree completely.
There is a wide gulf between the results of Musk's actions vs what he says he's trying to do. Everyone who was working on preventing sexual exploitation of children no longer works there. Maybe he needs more time, and a company that is losing money does need to make cuts. It is all business decisions, and if Twitter is unacceptable to a segment, something else will fill the gap. The advertisers have voted with their feet.
Musk said he doesn't want to be the CEO of any company. Dude should delegate sooner rather than later.

He’s already said he does. We had endless discussions about compelled speech being the opposite of free speech, but he really thinks that the government should step in and make sure that Nazis have access to mainstream social media sites

Yeah he keeps weirdly trying to claim superiority over and over by claiming other people don't support free speech and he does, yet he doesn't actually know what free speech means.

He's banning people for making fun of him. How is that more free? You have a very skewed perspective of free speech and what constitutes defense against impersonation.

I don't own any Apple products, but are there alternatives to the Apple App store? I once heard the Apple App Store was the only way to get apps for Apple. I may have misunderstood.

It's happening. 12,000 accounts have been restored. There's a ton of people complaining about free speech on Twitter right now, so I'm sure Twitter is being cautious. But if they don't restore accounts like Garland Nixon, or at least offer an explanation or timeline by next week, I'll concede that free speech isn't being restored.

No, I don't like 'the current censorship model', please (pretty please?) quit make believing things about me so you can falsely attack me. It seems every post I make now to everyone I have to say that. Maybe you should ask if I agree with the censorship of CrimethInc before you make believe I do?
As I just said, if the ban remains after another week and a good explanation isn't provided, I'll concede that Twitter isn't as free as I originally thought.
The establishment is trying very hard to take Twitter down, and I think Twitter has to be a little cautious as they open things up.
Again, give them a week to explain, or I will concede my thoughts about them.

Exactly. I'm against Nazis, but I'm for their right to speak up. That's exactly what free speech is all about. It's not about only allowing only non-controversial topics.
