Advertisers are fleeing the ship anyway. Especially after the impersonation thing, even more have cancelled ad buys.

I have never looked that deep into Twitter because I don't find interacting on a platform with a 280 character limit to be something that would help my business, but I think you get charged for likes, retweets, clicks, downloads if that is an option, etc.. They have metrics for bot clicks and try to adjust. Nobody would advertise with them if bots were allowed to run completely amuck and drive advertising rates up for no reason, which is a glaring issue in Elon's current strategy. Obviously, Twitter cared before he bought it. The problem is that these advertising models are a house of cards to some degree. Yes, people get results, but most people don't. The next new platform comes along, all the people that aren't making Twitter work go there because it's cheaper and you see better advertising results because it is less competitive, then Twitter cranks the prices to compensate. It happens all the time.
Elon can delete bots until he is blue in the face and it won't make it any more free speech like. Especially not with the draconian sign up/delete account rules. What he is clearly struggling is to make it be a more desirable platform to be on. Facebook has market place, groups, your feed, etc.. The platform sucks, but there is value to being a member beyond just watching a bunch of blowhards post 280 characters at a time.

Nice post I agree. I don't use Twitter either but it seems to have been big for news agencies and politicians. What kind of a demographic is that to advertise to?

One of the biggest problems for Elon is that Twitter does a massive ad buy contract for the year in like, March, where massive companies pay a sum for all advertising that happens for the year.
This year, many companies didn't make their yearly ad buys, because they were worried about Elon Musk buying the platform. So twitter was down some significant percentage of income for the year already. Something like 15-50% of their annual income happens at that big ad buy.

Looks like Elon Musk's tweets go to the top of your twitter timeline even if you don't follow him.
People are also complaining that their twitter timelines are now dominated by Marjorie Three Name, the Kenosha Killer, and assorted other MAGA drivel.
In other news, Elon Musk's email about firing people went to Europe. Problem is, European labor laws are a lot more struct. People have contracts and shit. Firing requires meeting those contractual obligations, including explanations to the governments involved, because UI. So there is likely an incoming wave of lawsuits from there as well.

After a bunch of people I know said they were surprised to find out they were following Trumps account, I checked and found out I was too. I never followed his account

No. Just to deactivate your account.

So hes not actually confirming if accounts being made are actually being made by the real person....lmao! This literally does nothing to prevent impersonation...

Gay gun rights org suspended from Twitter after right wing campaign to get them banned. So much freedom of speech

This is one of the accounts that organized the campaign to get them banned

Ah, yes. Because sending government ID means that you cannot possibly lie. Especially when there is no requirement to sign up with a government ID.
You sound like one of those cashiers that insists I sign the back of my credit card in front of them so that they can compare the signature and make sure I'm not using a stolen card.

So no ID required to open an account but you need one to close it? Sounds like someone is just making it difficult to close an account

I wouldn't want a hacker to close my Twitter account if I had a large numbre of posts/followers.

How does showing ID stop that? A hacker knows your name as it appears on the account if he/she is at that point. What's stopping him/her from modifying an image of a driver's license to match that name? If he/she is in your account where he/she can click a link to close the account, he/she can already delete and/or modify all of your posts.
How does the ID thing offer you any protection?

I never claimed it would prevent 100% of fraudulent requests. It's just an attempt to reduce the number.

It’s designed to reduce the number of people leaving Twitter

Okay, but there are far easier, cheaper, and more effective ways to do that. 2FA would be super easy to implement and hard to beat. ID just makes it harder for legit members to close their own accouts.
