From the shaman's drums to the chanting of monks, music seems to be deeply connected to the spiritual experience.
Do you listen to music when tripping (or being stoned)? What's your favorite?

I really enjoy downtempo, psychedelic downtempo. Psytrance. Trance music is especially good for tripping. Indie. Electronic. Psychedelic rock. Grateful dead.

Thanks for the link. Great chant. Did you know? "Om mani padme hum" is the mantra of the Mahabodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion,
Padme is also one of my favorite characters from Star Wars.
She is the girlfriend of the young Anakin Skywalker, who would later become Darth Vader. Anakin becomes evil out of fear for losing Padme. But my favorite character, of course, is Yoda.
“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” — Yoda

yeah, music can be sacred. At times it hits our mind sensors harder than an orgasm. and it can bring up feelings well beyond our normal heightened senses to take us somewhere further.
I have changed course of music and life in my journey. But i always like the darker trance music. to an enchantical psychedelic movement. i also like some high beat OST from videogames... lol
this one is from a computer game UT3 it was originaly composed by Michiel van den Bos but later remixed into this version by Rom Di Prisco
this one is a lost more psychedelical, downtempo, psybient.
yuutsuu is pretty cool... and all the other artsist electronic gems has on their channel. this one is more retrowave. makes me want to... yah... you kno.

Video game music can be quite cool, especially if it's retro. Brings up memories.

I actually just learned that the other day
I really enjoy that chant because the tinkers and binkers n bops going on in the background as well as the humming/om n chanting is just amazing.. such a visual dance I've seen displayed on psychedelics to it

Stoned: I'm listening to Black metal to Classical to Bossa Nova to Electronic etc, varied music is valuable fuel.
Started adding "Om mani padme hum/Mantra of Avalokiteshvara" to some meditation sessions lately as well as internalising it when walking in nature. Very powerful chant! In similar vein, I highly recommend the 2007 album:"Nawang Khechog-Tibetan Meditation Music" there's some really nice stuff on there.

i play the grateful dead a lot, something spiritual with jerry's guitar playing/the band. dark stars can be really beautiful improv pieces (note my name) that take you somewhere mystical.
definitely believe there's a connection

You are referring to 'set and setting' on this side, thinking of how sound can create a mystical atmosphere.
The noise or word or song stuck in your head might be regarded as the other side contacting you.
It is an impression that can be followed, like strange smells or the will of the wisp.

But, remember that hubris is a sin, universal to all faiths.
You don't need to have any physical instrumentation to heed the sound.
Be careful and conscientious of where you are going.

I was listening to this Album while on Gapapentin and Delta 8 THC Vape and the Cow started talking to me and singing along to the album, it told me to "Repent", We talked about the Isiah prophesies about the Wolf lying down with the Lamb, and the Lion eating hay like the Ox when the Messiah comes. It came to point when the questions where so big neither me or him could answer them. I wonder sometimes if I should be a Vegetarian, But I know even plowing fields for harvest kills plenty of sentient beings. This is a master piece to hear though, pieced together as a collected arrangement of sorts. I first heard and fell in love with AHM and Fat Old Sun from mostly the 1971 live shows.

Quote:
When that fat old sun in the sky is falling Summer evening birds are calling Summer's thunder time of year The sound of music in my ears Distant bells new-mown grass Smells so sweet By the river holding hands Roll me up and lay me down And if you see don't make a sound Pick your feet up off the ground And if you hear as the warm night falls The silver sound from a time so strange Sing to me, sing to me When that fat old sun in the sky is falling Summer evening birds are calling Children's laughter in my ears The last sunlight disappears And if you see don't make a sound Pick your feet up off the ground And if you hear as the warm night falls The silver sound from a time so strange Sing to me, sing to me (When that fat old sun in the sky...)

Does anyone listen to classical music when tripping? Albert Hoffmann (the inventor of LSD) did that, and it was to him like music from the heavenly spheres. Didn't work for me. It was like listening to mathematics, instead of triggering an emotional experience.

Only really my numero uno of all classical albums- Gustav Holsts:The Planets (I like to get Mars out the way then it's smooooth sailing. Venus has some of the best motifs I've ever heard )
I've had the sense of "listening to mathematics" in soul-less instrumental 'ambient' music on shrooms before though, being pulled out of a beautiful mindset/CEV experience because the music was so bad- even tripping I reckon Master Hoffmann would have been vibing on "Going, going, gone" by Mild High Club if it weren't released in a different era

This is indeed genius! Thank you durian! We are to see beyond the surface appearances, the false idols. The transcendent, ineffable goes beyond the literal illustrations.
