Question on mototub colonization when using Sterlite Locking bins - (when it comes to holes)
    #28024708 - 10/30/22 03:56 PM (2 years, 2 months ago)

Hi all, been lurking on the site for the past 3-4 months but just registered account since I now i got all the mats and will probably have questions along the way (im a newb). I got myself 3 of these sterilite Air tight locking monotubs (54 sq), see pic below.

I have read many guides but cant quite find information specific when using one of these tubs (since most aren't air tight like these).

Question is, do I still tape every hole with duck tape while colonizing the substrate in the tub? or do i need to use poly or monopore tape to counter the air tight seal on these tubs?

Thanks in advance and please excuse me if this is common sense or anything,  just want to be 100% sure before I mess everything up.

Pasty EZ Dial monotub

Follow his hole pattern and just let it go. No need to restrict air flow for colonization, just go straight into fruiting conditions

I would still follow tek to a T. Depending on what your conditions are like few days after spawning, you can adjust accordingly.

I used to tape all holes with duct tape, and yes,it worked and produced fruits...now I tape all holes with duct tape EXCEPT two bottom holes diagonal from  each other ,that I tape using the old style pasty micropore tape...two layers on bottom holes...I just did a tub of P.E where I only left one bottom hole with micropore...generally speaking, the "high co2 level" and tape and seal tubs and projects during vegetative growth(colonizing) is outdated..while there are still plenty that do it..most fruit at spawning..

Its really a matter of preferences, and whether you are sure your substrate is at proper field capacity ,and spawn is CLEAN,regardless, leave a hole or two with G/E material (polyfill, micropore).

This. Tape the holes only if it seems to dry up. In my experience the coir colonizes way quicker if you let it enjoy fresh air.

I use the exact same tubs and pasty’s ez dial setup. Works like a charm for me. I don’t cover any holes unless I see the sub start to dry out and that’s not too often. Good luck and have fun!!
