Switched to whole grains
    #28024579 - 10/30/22 02:20 PM (2 years, 2 months ago)

I didn’t have much luck with proper hydration for wbs, so I switched to oats. Haven’t had many issues with contams aside from when a ship fell off. How’s the monotub look so far? Just spawned my bags about 3 days ago. Doing the shoebox tek, used about 1.5-2qts spawn with close to the same for coir and vermiculite. Might try gypsum next time
Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks

I misted it after I took the picture. Didn’t soak it, but it’s damp. The spawn was clean so hopefully I have some luck this time.

its not a matter of luck.
the coir on your photo is dry . the mycelium looks dry. so, thats the only thing to be said.
after that you do whatever you want, i encourage you to find the thread about surface conditions.

all the best

ime the substrate doesn’t bead with water much until around 100% colonization, & flash can make coir look weird. looks like happy myc to me. if your substrate was at field capacity & your tub is dialed in you should be fine at least until pins start showing up. if your coir is light brown on top (like the color it is before you hydrate it) instead of a deep brown it might be too dry, but i don’t think the myc would be colonizing the surface like that if it were too dry

you might be right as he is using flash. hard to tell. myc looks happy and if its damp, it can't be far. it LOOKS dry though

oh i agree, pics & flash make it super hard to judge moisture. im just chalking that look up to the flash. i’ve just noticed even in my own pics of tubs that shit will look dry as hell but i know that they aren’t. the myc just looks so good i can’t imagine it would colonize like that if the top were too dry ya know?

It was definitely dry on top. Humidity seems fine in the tub, but the casing dried out a bit since I spawned it. I’ll keep an eye on it either way and mist as needed

hell yeah. i think you’ll have a great grow. glad chris told you to give it a good mist

i find it really helps with humidity to do a top layer of coir & mist it fairly heavily at spawn if you didn’t do that. otherwise maybe just try to lower FAE for a bit & let it ride

Mini update. They seem to be coming along quite well. I’ve been misting as needed as per the advice. I should soon be able to switch them to fruiting.
