Pan Cyans conflicting info

In regards to cultivating Panaeolus cyanescens...and black caps.
I'm confused. Black caps of Panaeolus cyanescens are sometimes assumed to be simply covered in spores. Other people call this mold. Still, other people believe that it's caused by some kind of bacteria.
What I have is like lamp black. It readily comes off with a damp dishcloth but can discolor the edges, especially if not processed until the second day.
Spores? Mold? Bacteria? As I said...confused.
I don't want to eat moldy or bacteria-laden mushrooms.

Probably spores. It would help if you posted a picture, but definitely don't toss them out. Properly dried or made into tea with boiling water--they will not hurt you. But, if it wipes off it's probably just spores. Let me know what you think when you try them! I love pans!!!

Sorry. I got all excited to harvest and dry my first Pan Cyans. But I had to clean almost everyone to get them to healthy-looking mushroom beige.
They LOOK fine when I dried them. Sell the car, sell the kids...I'm going in!

Is there any technique, temperature, substrate, or casing wherein the spores are not such a problem? I am used to cubensis where you harvest them before the spores form.

You can luck out sometimes by finding a culture that fruits well, but doesn't drop as many spores. I don't know of any technique or anything else that could obtain those results.
The spores really don't hurt anything, but it is ideal if you can vent the air outside to reduce the spore load in the indoor air.
Good job filling those jars! Just make sure they are cracker dry. Putting some moisture absorbers to keep them that way never hurt either.

Already got skeptical when I read that spore covered caps were the problem.
