I've posted about it before but use my ninja foodi for cultivation a lot.. currently running a number of pint jar grows all sterilized in the foodi. It's not an instapot but very similar. I do 2.5hrs usually and it's nice being set and forget. Even has a vent to properly vent steam for 10-15 min first. I have a quart jar that I'm trying out in it, but it can only do one quart jar at a time versus i think six pint jars. Plus it's more girth to penetrate (heh) so i could see more issues with quarts versus pints..
I wouldn't buy one for cult specifically but if you have one laying around it can work for things. Great for syringes, tools, LC and agar. I dont use my PCs for those items any more, too easy in the foodi. Pf tek works fantastic in one as well. And you can easily pasteurize in it..

Iโll admit my first run at it I used an instapot to make LC. Didnโt turn out too good and had to borrow a friends PC and start over. Crazy ass hillbilly starting out cultivating with spores to LC. But damn it it worked like a charm but not with the instapot.
not at all condoning doing s2lc to start out your journey. Seriously! Lol

Used an instant pot for these... my first grow. PC is on my shopping list though. But it worked. Could be better though. Definitely works. I got about 100g dry weight so far out of 10 myco qts total in spawn. I'd recommend using one if you're starting and cheap like me and just want to see if you like the hobbies.

I havent eaten shrooms in possibly 20 years. Life hadn't put me in the proper place or situation to eat them. I'm still excited to build up a stash of the 5 different types I have and try to perfect a steady lions maine grow routine. But first, grow more cubes and get the basics down.
You guys are all really cool. And the support and community really enhances the fun of this hobby.

Rusty2096 said: @Smellyhobbit : I think you should try get the hydration level you are looking for without using verm (save if for when you need it IE: coir too wet), that way you save time and verm money.
Also, maybe the verm keeps drinking longer than you think it does and you end up with under hydrated coir? Hence the dry sub with some cultures? Just theories.
I had the same thought about dialing back moisture to save verm. Cut a pint last time. Iโll probably cut another cup on my next batch. Weโll see! Iโm out of verm so lol.
I dont have and canโt procure a larger scale, so everything is getting done by eye for a while regardless.
I have forgone verm in my monos. And I have found dialing in my tubs much easier if I run the coir on the wet side. Two things are needed for that: 1) Clean spawn 2) very lofty coir. Like zero compression. Wet coir can turn to a brick that doesn't evaporate off it internal moisture.
Very loose wet coir really helps keep the tote humid and allows me to open up airflow more.
my unrequested two cents.
I think my coir has been underhydrated ever since my first couple of grows triched out and I blamed it on overhydration instead of the shitty spawn that it actually was.
Your fluffy idea is an interesting departure from What P9 does with compression, and he also runs his FC a bit higher than other videos I've seen. I'm about to spawn some shoeboxes and I think I'll run some side by side comparisons of fluffy vs compressed and let people know the results.

I've been using an instapot since day one about a year ago and as my technique has gotten better I've got very low contam rates. For reference I do a 15min vent and 180min cook with crack's no-prep millet. I am really looking forward to P9's results when he gets round to testing the instapot.
