Sources of cheap low volume vermiculite * 1

I didn't find any recent posts about where to find reasonably-priced vermiculite, other than "Check your local hydro store" so I thought I'd chime in on what I have found for the price-conscious shopper.

Buying your standard 8-qt bag will run you around $14 on Amazon and most other places, which works out to about $1.75/qt.

If you are buying in bulk you can find 2 and 4-cu. ft. bags priced at around $1.00 per quart (2 cu. ft is about 60 quarts). And that may be coarse grade.

However, I found Ace Hardware selling their Ferry Morse Fine Grade 8-qt. bags for just $8.99, or about $1.12 per qt.

And for the best deal going, Lowe's is selling 8 quarts of Sta-Green brand for just $5.98, or $.75 per quart right now.

If you don't need/want to buy in cubic feet, Ace or Lowe's seems to be the way to go.

Hopes this helps someone save some pennies (in the U.S.). Please post if there are better low-volume deals out there.

For low volume you're probably right.

I personally like the A1 Fine sand grade verm. And because it's sand 4 cu ft is a shit ton of it for the price. We all compact our tubs these days so there's no need for fluffy courser verm.

The fine sand holds more water and you get more verm per cu ft
