thanks guys! just harvested more off the greenhouse shoebox so I'll update again soon.

I'm stoked to see more gym grows fisherman! What species are you going to be working with?

I've got old prints of luteus and ventricosus I'd like to try down the road, actually failed with the luteus a couple years ago, but first will be some bigger tubs with this clone and then an attempt from spores. My masters are about a week from done and then I'm going to try g2gin to 50/50 oats and small alder chips before spawning to the same mix as these shoeboxes.

Potting soil, verm, flour. It was just a spores test so not a special substrate for gym but finally make a little fruit, after pick him I mix this little colonised subtrate to pasterised woodship to try expand mycelium..

Nice I can't wait to see! These are definitely fun to grow.

I just expanded from my masters yesterday, gonna try some different stuff this time around and see if I can't get some bigger fruits.

Right on, are you going for an inside grow or woodchips for an outdoor patch?

I used 50/50 fuel pellets and wheat pellets supplemented with oat bran. I just cut the top of the bag off yesterday, cased it and tossed it in my gh. Fingers crossed

Such an exciting expansion of mycological research!

I have a bag of sticks/chips out under the snow and ice of some awesome junonius. Hoping that the spawn run did okay for this coming season.

Otherwise, I will definitely be looking in the same spots in august and trying to do something like this.

Even after remembering why people act like gyms are so much weaker than cubes, I still love them. Teachers, that's what they are.

Beautiful log!

Hey all, here are some details about a Gymnopilus luteofolius grow I'm working on. I'll update as things move along. Any advice is very welcome!
A common tek seems to be inoculating sterilized wood-based substrates in bags, I went for bucket tekked pellets/coir in shoeboxes instead and it's working pretty well.
I listed threads I referenced for this grow at the bottom.

*Updated 1-18-18 with more pictures and harvests. There haven't been clearly defined flushes with these tubs, every few days there are more mature mushrooms and more pins coming up. If it was MS I'd attribute that to different strains, but since this is from a clone it seems that's just how these gyms get down.

**Updated 2-10-18 few more pictures, 4th harvest of gh tub and 5th of flipped lid/open air. There are some randomly maturing pins that have to be picked about once a week other than the harvests I'm counting. Tubs took a break from pinning for about 10 days then flushed again, got dunked, and are continuing to flush. I expected these to die by now but will continue to update until they succumb to something.

***Updated 2-16-18 more pictures, 5th harvest of gh tub and a couple chunky guys poppin in the open air tub. Bioassay results postponed.

Timeline
Cl 10-29-17
t1 11-10-17  -> Oats 11-21-17  -> Sub 12-13-17  -> Pins 1-1-18
t2 11-21-17
t3 12-1-17
t4 12-13-17
t5 1-6-18 (I get pretty lazy about transfers)

I cloned a few Gymnopilus luteofolius back in October, and transferred from the best recovering plate. All original plates had bacteria.
The first transfer grew out without apparent bacteria so I transferred again but also inoculated two quarts of whole oats.

I kept all plates from the chosen clone on forward to see what they did.
The original clone plate became heavily contaminated with bacteria growing all around the mycelium but eventually the mycelium grew over the bacteria.

The plate I inoculated the oats with (t1) eventually fruited.
...
The other plates have all fruited after a month from transfer.
...

While the mycelium grew thickly tomatose over agar, it was not like that on the oats.
I waited for a while (maybe a week) after full colonization because it didn't look like full colonization.
Upon closer examination with magnification I could see that the mycelium had indeed colonized the oats, just very whispy.
...

For the bulk sub I bucket tekked this recipe:
3 cups douglas fir pellets
200 grams of coir
9 cups of boiling water
= 7 loose packed quarts filled to the brim

I used 4 quarts of this substrate for the Gyms
so each shoebox was 1:2

I mixed most of the sub and spawn and then covered with a top layer
No casing

The mycelium continued to behave strangely in the shoeboxes, it became rhizo and then this stuff happened:

I have no idea whats going on there. The dots sketch me out but both subs keep chuggin along.
One of those thick white patches grew up to the surface level and looks just like the matted mycelium on the substrates surface.

One of the shoeboxes was fully colonized, the other had about 30% surface uncovered by the matted mycelium but began pinning first.
I stuck the fully colonized one in a greenhouse and flipped the lid on the one with uncolonized surface.
I'm not trying to compare the fruiting techniques, I just didn't have more room in the GH.
If I do more shoeboxes of these I'll probably just open air them again cause it's going so well.

The GH tub is just catching up, but has a lot more pins than the other. I think this is more to do with the better colonization than the GH though. It's not a fancy GH.
The fruits in the GH are shorter than those in the other tub.
The flipped lid tub has been spending most of the day open air, 2 feet below a 6500k light.
The GH tub is about 4 feet from a 5000k light and the fruits were leaning strongly towards the light.
...

Hey are you still here?

Do Gymnopilus Luteofoliuscan make you laugh like Gymnopilus Spectabilis?
