Orbit/Everything Everywhere All At Once
    #28008959 - 10/21/22 08:28 AM (1 year, 3 months ago)

Ok, this was more of a fun experiment than anything else. Having never tripped with the intention of watching a movie, I wanted to experiment with 2 films, back to back.

The first film is a video on Youtube called Orbit. Showing spectacular footage from the ISS and set to a wonderful playlist of music by Phaeleh, it takes you on a 90 minute journey around the earth in 4K.

The second film is the multiple award winning “Everything Everywhere All At Once”, which is a fantastic movie even without psychedelics. The movie is an absolute trip dealing with the themes of nihilism, depression, family, the multiverse, immigration, generational differences, and the human experience. It could even be said to venture into mental health, ADHD and schizophrenia (as if that last one hasn't been a theme this week).

Info:
35 YO Male
210 Lbs
2.6 grams Golden Teacher (eaten whole)
Fasted all day except for a very light miso soup for lunch.
3 hits of hemp flower with 17% CBD and <0.3% THC
Time taken: 1808

In the less than ideal situation of trying to finish up some chores and get the kid fed, rushed like most middle aged families, I found time to ease out of the house to smoke my CBD and then shortly after took my 2.6 grams at 18:08. Even though I was pretty busy right up to the start bell, I didn't have that pre-trip anxiety I normally do. It might have had something to do with the casual nature of the evening's experiment with no expectations. It was nice to be honest. Took some pizza out of the oven for the kid, wife had just some home from work and was finishing up in the shower. The kid was finishing up a show before turning the TV over to me.

ORBIT

First effects were felt at 18:30, wife now had control of the kid and I settled into my bean bag with a cozy blanket at 18:45 and started Orbit on the TV in the living room. Through the opening sequence, I noted it had a “significant feel” to it, like something important or profound was coming. The Earth came into view, and while I didn't have visuals yet, it looked so beautiful and precious. The visuals started around 18:50, time slowed down a bit, and I noticed the clouds were starting to blend and morph “like cotton candy”.  The music was very nice, having a deeper feel at this point. Around 19:00, 2D CEVs had started with colors of red and green and the quality of hard edges and organic, non-angular shapes. At 19:10 my little tell-tale green and red (both colors at once) circles/hexagons with dots in the center were visable in shadowed areas. These appear in every trip as I approach the “Level 3” mark and are a good, familiar indicator of where I'm at dose-wise.

By now, the clouds were really starting to move, rotate, and slightly fractal while the boundaries of the geographic features began to shift and bend. One thing I noticed with this video on the TV was the lack of what I would describe as a “flare” effect where the screen looks overly bright and the colors bleed out of the screen. I normally see this effect when I look at my cellphone while tripping. Looking at the TV however, had a very natural look like I was looking through a window.

Now, I'm laying on my beanbag watching this, wife and kid are in the living room eating pizza and as it turns out, I dropped the ball and didn't check if there was any more homework for the kid, which there was, so they start working on homework together. My focus shifts away from the film for a while, helping get the homework situation settled and occasionally playing with our puppy. At one point I laid back down on the beanbag and settle in again trying to soak up some of this “profoundness”  of our tiny fragile Earth in view when our puppy grabs his favorite toy, climbs up on the beanbag with me and starts humping it right next to my face. I lost it. I was dying.

I wrote: “Trying to lay here and watch Orbit, maybe have a revelation about how important and fragile out planet is... puppy just wants to play, now humping his toy. I'm dying. Sitting here trying to write. This pup is too much.”

It was one of the funniest moments I've ever had tripping, probably funnier to me than everyone else in the room. I was having a good time. So now, by this point my little experiment had yielded good results for Orbit and I would highly recommend it. From this point on, I split my attention between the film and my family as we just casually hung out together, Plaeleh playing in the background with an Earth visualizer. It was really nice just spending good, quality, mundane time with the family. Kid had finished their pizza by this point and wanted a snack. Not really having much in the way of treats in the house, I got up and went to the kitchen to prepare some cut up apples and caramel (dulce del leche). Intrestingly, it was also at this moment that I started to peak. It was around 20:00. I was pretty careful throughout the whole process but I had this overwhelming desire to help and get a snack for my kid as if it was my mission or something.

Back to the living room, apples in hand (fortunately, I still had 2), I mainly just hung out with the family, occasionally looking at the screen. A few notable moments with the film:

I wrote: “The textures are amazing even without tripping, but there is a depth and grandeur and intricacy that maybe only some of the world's best poets can describe.”

At  time marker 50:30  I wrote: “The snow capped mountains look incredible fractaling across the landscape”.

So we finished out Orbit mainly huddled together on the couch finishing up homework and getting the kid ready for bed. Both wife and I went upstairs to tuck the kid in, snuggled and talked for a little, then came back downstairs. It was about 20:30, later than I had anticipated, and I almost made the call to skip the movie. Wife was pretty tired too and stated she probably wouldn't be able to stay awake. After talking it over for a minute, we decided to play the movie anyway as we snuggled up on the beanbag together with the full expectation that we might not finish the movie.

EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE

Having seen this movie once before, I had planned on starting it right at my peak and then as the movie's reality dissolved, mine would start coming back together. I was about 30 minutes behind the curve with slight distortions in faces and soft edges on objects visible for about the first 15 minutes of the movie. From there, visuals started to fade with everything but a trippy headspace and my little green circles/hexagons lasting until the end of the movie.

I'd hate to give any spoilers to this fantastic movie but I'll say it was absolutely amazing being in a trippy headspace watching it. I don't have really much to say about any specific part and kinda took the experience as a whole. The effect of sobering up while the movie got more crazy was pretty cool. We stayed awake till the end, both lightly crying as the movie closed itself out. Made me really appreciate my family and just being happy with what I have. I think taking a casual approach to this trip really helped me accept things the way they are and not trying to focus on an “ideal” trip.

I wrote: “Just hanging out as a family was nice even though it was homework.”  in reflection of the time during Orbit. “Perfect with the theme to the movie.”

We finished the movie out around 23:00 then put ourselves to bed after I made a few notes in my notepad.

“Just be kind.”

10/10 experience. Would recommend.

Things I've learned so far:

Death with consciousness can be boring. Balance is important. Set intentions, not expectations. Sad trips can be helpful as well as challenging trips. Stick with your first dose. We learn more when we listen rather than speak. Be kind. The small moments in life that tend to go unnoticed are sometimes the most beautiful.

I want a puppy! 🐶
I really liked "everything everywhere all at once." Pretty trippy movie! I'll have to check out "orbit."

Sounded like a good, meaningful trip.

That's it! Just be kind 😇
