A tale of two tubs
    #28017518 - 10/26/22 12:34 PM (2 years, 2 months ago)

Ok so I have 2 tubs I have questions on:

Tub 1: GT: SP -> Agar -> T3 -> LC -> QC'ed 3x Agar -> Millet Spawn Bag. Sub is cow manure (premade bought) 1:3.

I am on flush 1.75 right now (there are still 1/4 of the tub finishing growing). These GT's did not fuck around. Between flush 1 and 1.5 I have gotten around 800 grams wet. They were packed in dense enough that I had to use scissors (normally I do a gentle twist). My question is this: Do you all think this tub will recover enough to produce subsequent flushes?

Tub 2: Creeper: MS -> Agar -> T3 -> LC -> QC'ed 3x Agar -> Millet Spawn Bag. Sub is cow manure (premade bought) 1:1 (yes I'm aware this is too low).

This tub produced about 100 g wet, and didn't do very well due to suboptimal spawn/sub ratio and kept drying out due to too much FAE (I like in a desert).

There was a lot of pinning on the bottom though. I attempted to float the sub to see if I could flip it over and go for flush 2 but the moment I started getting it up, it started splitting and fell into 4 pieces (in thinking about it, I'm wondering if I should have just cut it into 4 pieces). Do you all think this tub is salvageable? Should I toss it?

Thanks in advance!

How much spawn did you use on the first tub? If it's the average 4lb bag there is still more potential, but later flushes will give diminishing returns.  Rehydrate and wait.

Second tub: Hydration was your problem.  Its going to be had to maintain excellent surface conditions with those cracks but if you don't need the tub for something else, rehydrate and wait.

Tub 1 was a 1:3 ratio. I want to say 3 lbs of spawn : 9 lbs of sub. Do I have to worry at all about the bruised stumps that were left over? Looks like I need to harvest the last 1/4 of the tub today. Also, there was tons of side pinning, should I try to get those side pins before rehydrating?

Agreed. Hydration was always an issue in this tub. I waited for what could be harvested, then restricted the MASSIVE airholes I had put in with duct tape.

On both of these tubs, should I float them for 4ish hours to rehydrate? I just woke up, and I don't remember if I was reading old posts when I read this, but is it current practice to float between flushes?

Thank for the help!

You should be able to get around 50g dry per mycoquart.  I've never run bags but my understanding is that a mycoquart is roughly equivalent to ~1lb of spawn.  So max potential would be about 150g dry from your 3lb bag.  Assuming 800g wet is 80g dry you still have some potential in there. Will you realise it? Dunno.

I'm not sure how long others dunk, I go for around 4 hours.

I'll give 4 hours a try and see how it goes. Learning experience and all.

TBH, I'm happy with what I have gotten so far, more would be nice, but what is is what is. So far, I'm pretty sure I'm edging slowly towards 1000-ish g wet so far on flush 1.

That's a ton of micro dosing (If I'm remembering my math right, it's almost 2 years worth).

So... the stumps. They won't be an issue on flush 2 (if we get a flush 2)?

Ok, so I dunked Tub 1 for 4 hours. It dawned on me, that I could drain the tub with another identical tub (this quitting smoking thing is really killing my brain).

So... there was a decent amount of side and under pinning. Considering they were just dunked for 4 hours, should I save these guys on the bottom of the tub and harvest? What will happen if I don't?
