Gas exchange?

Good day
I will probably be ridiculed for this but do I need GE in grain jars? Please see pictures attached. I followed the suppliers instructions to the tee and no mention of gas exchange and asked to put cellotape over the inoculation hole. See picture attached (hopefully it works). The pics were taken from the instructions of the supplier just to show what the jars look like. I only see now the picture is of PFTek kits. But the jars look the same.
Only has one injection hole with some silicone or something and they asked to cover it with cellotape. No GE hole whatsoever.
Day 8, no growth just condensation in one jar. The other has minimal condensation.
Please advise ...

You do need GE in grain jars. Usually a SFD, micropore, polyfill, or leave it cracked slightly but don’t ever shake while it’s slightly cracked.

Can I drill holes now? Or is it too late?
And are 3mm holes fine?
It's day 8 today.

It’s too late at this point…some experienced growers will leave the jar lid on just a small crack away from being tight in place of those things i listed. Does it work? Personally idk but it works for them so 🤷♂️

Too late? So don't bother making holes?
Should I chuck them? And start over by making my own grains?

I think at this point you should just run them. If you can slightly crack the jar lid just barely from being tight. When you go to shake them make sure you re tighten them. It’s always better to make your own grains and jars. I’m saying it’s too late because you’ll expose the uncolonized grains to air. You could hot swap the lids that are ready to go but just keep it in mind for next time.

What did you knock it up with again? Im sure some proponents of unmodified anything will say it can work. But yea, with unmodified lids, you can simpmy crack it open. You cant drill it now because then, you would let all hell loose in those jars.

I have one 1L grain jar with 5cc's of APE.
And another 1L grain jar with 5cc's blue meanie.
Both were in the dark at room temp for 4 days then I read it had to have ambient light. It is now in my spare room on the bed at room temp with indirect sunlight.

Ambient light is beneficial to all stages of growth but they can germinate in the dark, assuming youre talking about 5ccs of SPORE solutions for your project.

No, as mentioned before I used 5cc's of Liquid culture in both jars.

I run all my quart jars unmodified. I use the ball no-leak lids. Just like these guys already said loosen the lid about 1/4 turn and tighten it to shake.
Contams won't climb up and through the jar rings and you will have plenty of ge.
Good luck and welcome to the Shroomery.
keep us updated!
Also check this link on how to Post Pics
Edit: I looked through your gallery and it doesn't look like that jar has rings to loosen. It might have some gas exchange though. For best results you should look into a diy situation.
But for now I would probably contact the seller and inquire. Sorry I don't know more about the pre-made jar. I'm going to do some research because everyone is selling them these days and I want to help a little better.

Thanks, I did contact the seller. But doubt they will take any responsibility.
I opened one up a little yesterday and removed the injection poitn putty and put some microtape over the hole. Will see if the one does anything different to the other. I have some good pics to further identify.
Will check how to post and then post an update.

Too wet and most likely bacterial.

I sent the supplier the same pics and they said to shake it and give it another week. There isn't a hole for any Gas exchange.
I made one in one of the jars though.

With LCs, growth will have been more pronounced IF inoculation was successful, visible in as little as 1-3 days.

I really don't know what could've gone wrong. Either the LC's or the grains I'm thinking.

Or both to be honest, you're dealing with a supplier that doesn't really care beyond his sales.
I had this a while back, tried a supplier for a lc I was after and it turned everything green, he sent me a replacement and it was as bad. He stopped responding after I showed him his poor quality lc.

That sucks man, sorry.
Yea I don't know what's going to happen. I'll give it another week and then see what they have to say.
I'm really bummed, was super excited.
Thinking of making my own corn jars and inoculating them with some cc's I have left just to see what happens.
